Someone must be willing to take Liles.
His contract may not be ideal but he can still play unlike some of the contracts that are out there.

If Liles can't be sent down, I can't see some team who has a player that can be sent down, yet is making similar money but maybe done, being traded.
Ie... Liles for a similar money type player who is finished and we can just send him down to the Marlies.
He can play, but he's not worth anywhere close to 4M dollars, which is the problem. If he were a FA, I could see someone signing him for maybe 1.5M, but nowhere close to what the Leafs are paying him.
Problem is you likely can't trade Liles - he's total dead weight. Maybe if you eat half his salary, but that doesn't help you too much.
Friedmann on the radio yesterday after talking to Nonis said he feels that Nonis wants to do something big to make this his team. Fried asked about the extensions to Phil and Dion and said that they are not on the front Burners right now.
I ain't biting on the sources of Organic Steroids above, but if Nonis did want to do a big move to make this HIS leafs team, trading Phaneuf to the Oil would be it. I say you keep Franson at 4.25 or whatever and that core of defense is very different, mobile, fast, smart and if you keep Fraser and Granson (or whatever this big kids name is) you could still have some toughness.
That could be the big move that Nonis is waiting on.
Kessel should already be signed. Thats a guy you give whatever he wants.

Edmonton has the kind of pieces that definitely constitute a big move. Interesting.
Sounds like if anyone is traded it'll be Franson. Not that I want that but I'm sure Franson is more likely to be traded than Phaneuf. Also I believe Franson would garner a heftier return then Phaneuf.
