Leafs/Habs/Sens 2014-15

Nope

The clear suggestion here is that you have played sports and that I haven't. The only sport you have stated first hand experience with the past is volleyball. You were more than welcome to correct me and make an already ridiculous point more ridiculous by pointing out that because you played CIS something or other, you were an expert in the field of sports psychology, but you didn't.
Fair enough I can see how you could interpret it that way, but my intention was only to delve into the psych of sport, not our personal experiences with them.

For interests sake, what experience do you have in that area?

If someone's making a poor argument, address the argument itself. This appeal to authority shit on an internet message board really grinds my gears.

"Oh, you think you know better than the guys who get paid to scout/GM/coach?"

It's just lazy discussion.

It's not even an appeal to "authority".

volleyball playing doesn't grant any authority in this context.

It's a koreaboy-level argument, as was mentioned.

That's not what is happening here.

I don't think there's much value in our athletic experience when it comes to comparing to professional athletes.

It's pretty much exactly the same thing. It's a message board - address his argument, don't worry about how much university [insert sport here] he played/coached. It doesn't win you the argument, it only makes you look sad.

Irrelevant.

There have been a lot of people over the years who have pretended to have deep knowledge of the psychology or were believed to understand how to motivate players and in the end, it's always called into question. Out of every professional who is supposedly a master motivator, how many actually have a track record that stands up to scrutiny?

Your intention of "delving into the psyche" of sport is nothing but an attempt to try to sell irrelevant personal history as useful, when we've seen numerous, numerous hockey professionals over the years fail to understand what you're trying to sell the understanding of.

Nobody is buying it.

If he's never studied and implemented sports psych, then his position isn't necessarily wrong, but is lacking context.

So none then, thanks.

The principles of sport and psych of sport don't change based on a paycheck.

No... but comparing your psyche to that of the absolute elite of the elite is absurd.

If you think that we handle pressure, nerves, emotion is the same way as the greatest athletes on the planet, you're nuts.

But I'm sure he took sports psych as an elective in university and has applied the things he learned to his high school girls volleyball team....surely you see that it's identical.

Nah, he's got a point. It's the same way that I've played game 7s in Strat-o-matic or OOTP, so I'm well qualified to know what goes on in a coach's head in a crucial World Series/Stanley Cup Final. I still wonder if I lost last year because I wasn't aggressive enough with my bullpen in game 1.

I will remember that when you discuss law or a legal case with me.

I would just like to put it out there that I once captained a team in a recreational billiards league.

So, if anyone's looking for an expert opinion on leadership in sports, or wants to know what it takes and what it's like to captain an NHL team, I'm your guy.
