Why? I see a bit of Yanni Gourde in him. Just a smart player, makes good plays, wins battles, blocks shots, solid defensively, can play on all 4 lines. As long as he keeps performing like that, he'll have a long career.

If he turns into a Gourde that would be pretty amazing. That is extremely rare.

I'm always concerned about high shooting percentages (he is at 20 percent). I'm pro small players but they need the offense and he just has not shown it in his career.

If he is on the team in 3 years that means Slaf, Roy, kidney, Farrel, mysak, guidon, simoneau, and whoever we draft this year...did not pan out. I put all of their potential higher than RHP.

Gourde only made it at 26 and had similar numbers to RHP in the AHL. Not saying he will be as good but it's way too early to say he has no room in our future team, plus he has multiple utilities. All the other guys are just prospects, he's in the NHL now. Of course the shooting % is not sustainable, but can he be an effective role player netting 30-40 points? It's possible.

Just for clarity Gourde played 20 games at 24 and got 64 points at 25 years old. But either way he is extremely rare.

Sure it is possible he becomes something decent but I'm not holding my breath. I will say of all the random AHLers (ylonen, Richard, etc) he is the only one I think has a chance if the Habs actually become good.

I was going from https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/g/gourdya01.html which said 26 for his first full season (the 64 points one), but his birthday is December 31st.

I still rank higher prospects that have produced in the NHL over those that have yet to make it to the AHL, except for guys like Hutson.
