I don’t mind picks like Beck once in a while. You need a mix of players and skills to make a team. If we can get a solid 3rd line center for a 2nd round pick, I’ll take that
Yup. And PD was and still is a very good player. He’s not a dime a dozen dude. But bigger. I'll take that.
He was also a first round pick.Yup. And PD was and still is a very good player. He’s not a dime a dozen dude.
Very late first round pick. Like Kyle ChipchuraHe was also a first round pick.
30th vs 33rdHe was also a first round pick.
Danault's 6'1" vs Beck's 5'11"But bigger. I'll take that.
Bingo.Give me the homerun pick every time. Sometimes those guys turn into the leks of the world as well.
26th but yes30th vs 33rd
Yeah, that’s why I liked the Hutson pick (and the Subban pick back in the day) even if they never hit their ceiling (Subban obviously did) they can still be useful (Hutson could be a sheltered 3rd pairing/PP wizard)
With their drafting history the should probably just trade every first round pick.Looks like the Habs finally stopped drafting cross checking D in the first round — Komi, Tinordi, etc You can find those guys in the later rounds or via FA (Chairot, Eddy)
Upside, ceiling and likely hood to reach a certain level all matters. Also there is too much scrutiny on ranks. Had we drafted Hutson with at 33rd, Beck would not have been available later.Bingo.
A lot of these third-line, fourth line NHL grinders were pretty good scorers in Junior.
The best example ever is always Guy Carbonneau, but if you want another example of someone who was here, look at Benoit Brunet. Star scorer in the Q, made himself out to be a pretty decent checker, albeit with a long injury history.
The goal should always be to go for upside.
They we take Ty Nelson with that pick. EasyUpside, ceiling and likely hood to reach a certain level all matters. Also there is too much scrutiny on ranks. Had we drafted Hutson with at 33rd, Beck would not have been available later.
What... 2 good first rounders from 2008 until 2019. And one of them we traded for drouin.
Didn't realize he was that big.Danault's 6'1" vs Beck's 5'11"
