Les Habitants Prospects Thread

Actual NHLers don't break a sweat in camp because their contracts ensure that they will be on the roster no matter what. The only ones who need to take camp seriously are bubble players, rookies and prospects trying to get noticed. Only the real game against a real opponent can tell you what you want to know about a guy.
Training camp is mainly to see how the yutes are progressing from year to year

You may have some battles for a few spots but 2/3 of your roster is basically set

AHL is loaded with Hudon type vets trying to stick and earn NHL money somewhere

Button gets paid to pontificate and is rarely correct
At least he has an opinion, real NHL experience, and doesn't regurgitate the same exact list as everyone else.

But yeah, he's off quite often. Some of his moves as a GM were amazingly bad, but he had a good drafting record.

Button discusses the skill level and fit of a player

He has no skin in player development so his predictions have to be taken with a grain of salt

I'd give him a contract, purely based on how bereft our forward pool is. Not to mention, who knows, maybe he's more suited to pro hockey and could figure it out as a grinder.

Next year, Laval's only getting a few new forward prospects: Owen Beck, Filip Mesar, Oliver Kapanen (probably...?), and then maybe Vinzenz Rohrer & Florian Xhekaj, although Rohrer/Xhekaj seem unlikely. Maybe Xhekaj gets a one year AHL contract to see how he does before we give him an ELC, we'll see.

Because of Tuch's age, his ELC will only be for two years. If he's not good, let him go after the 2025-2026 season.

Tuch will be signed, the organization likes him, and we don’t exactly have a lot of players with his profile. Decent shot at making the 4th line in 2 years.

Can you do that? Sign a drafted player to an AHL only contract instead of his ELC?

They will definitely sign Florian, he's done as well as they could have realistically hoped for this year.

Yup, absolutely. It's what we did with Cal Fleury, RHP, Xavier Simoneau, and Miguel Tourigny is on that path as we speak.

The problem with all four above were, we had two years to sign them, but they either couldn't go back to the CHL (RHP & Simoneau were too old) after one year, they'd be playing their overage season (Fleury & probably what's going to happen with Xhekaj) and therefore, kind of wasting their time and Miguel Tourigny just straight up was too old to go back to the CHL after we drafted him, so he went to play in Europe for a year & is now in the ECHL.

Drafting players gives us exclusive negotiating rights for a specific amount of time. If we sign them to ELCs, we can extend that period of time. Between the time we draft them & the day they sign their ELC, if they sign their ELC, they can sign a variety of contracts. It's not uncommon for CHL players to sign ATO / PTO contracts to play in the AHL at the end of the year without having it impact their ELC, we did it with Roy & Kidney two years ago.
