Les Habitants Prospects Thread

I'm not sure how good Ryan Leonard's going to be at the NHL level, but I think he's going to be like a poor man's Corey Perry: A player you fucking hate until he's on your team. His style is perfectly suited for NHL playoff hockey.

I’m not sure how good David Reinbacher will be . . . but his skating will likely help him a lot.

About that...

He's already running out of racetrack. He doesn't quite have as much time as you'd think.

The thing with the modern day NHL is, prospects need to make an impact almost immediately at the AHL level. If they're in year 1 and they don't? You can pretty much write them off. Most prospects don't come back from that.

Take William Trudeau last year. He was getting close to getting called up. Fast-forward a year later? Struble's ahead of him now. Hutson & Engstrom are about to sign their ELCs. Unfortunately for him, the probabilities of Trudeau ever making it barring a string of long-term injuries to multiple players in front of him are virtually nil.

There's a new batch of forwards going to Laval next year who are going to do their best to push Kidney down the depth chart.

Kapanen, maybe Xhekaj & Tuch, maybe an undrafted player from the CHL or NCAA. That doesn't seem like much (and you're right, it isn't), but as a fourth line AHL winger, all of those players are competing for his job & playing time.
At the same time, some veterans like Bourque and Maillet could be gone.

Xhekaj had a goal and an assist in Brantford's loss to Ottawa. 2 assists for Mesar in Kitchener's loss to Erie, he has 4 assists in 2 games.

Reinbacher will be fine but will always be compared with Michkov and Leonard.

I know the Larsson comparison has been made a lot, often in a negative way, but Larsson is a damn good defenseman, so if that’s the floor it’s not bad at all, as long as the other two don’t become all stars.

Also, what’s the problem?

Many fans were optimistic about Kidney before this season. So what if he didn’t pan out.

Doesn’t impact what happens to Beck. It’s not like fans (or HuGo) are directing all their optimism his way. We’ll survive if Beck fails as a pro… in the meantime, some of us will cheer him on.
ROR didnt light up the OHL in points , didnt even score 20 goals

Beck should be a solid third liner , plays a 200 foot pro game with high IQ

ROR was a PPG in his draft season, but he is an early Jan birthday and really cranked it into high gear in the new year as an 18-yr old, which shot him up the draft as an early 2nd round

He has exceeded NHL expectations IMO

Beck lost a full year of development due to Covid

Sure. Only to be replaced by other AHL veterans.
In any case I think the team has a pretty good history in giving a player more than one year to prove himself. Teasdale, Abbandanato, Condotta, Norlinder etc, all good examples of players who were brought back for a 2nd year after a so-so first year. Kidney is a good enough prospect to get a second look. This year he didn't played much on the top 2 lines.

Guindon picked up an assist for Owen Sound in their lost to Saginaw (Beck's team). Saginaw leads the series 3-0.

Xhekaj scored 2 and picked up an assist in Brantford's win today.

Prospects playoff stats:

Mesar: 5GP, 1G ,7A
Beck: 4GP, 2G, 5A
Xhekaj: 5GP, 3G, 2A
Guindon: 4GP, 1G, 3A
Sobolev: 5GP, 0G, 1A

At this point it seems unlikely that Adam Engstrom will be coming over to Laval before the end of the season.

His team, Rogle, won in overtime to go up 3-0 against Vaxjo. They're one win away from going to the SEL finals.

By the time they get to the finals & complete it, the AHL season is all but likely to be over.
