My own little thread on the Carolina Panthers/NFL Thread

Boy, did the Falcons ever hand them a gift. Sheesh.

I hate to rain on the parade, but Cam has to learn to throw the ball at the NFL level. The contrast with Brees in the late game was stark.
 
The Panthers defense is superior to their offense. Cam brings athleticism to the position. He's not "football smart" per se.

His "football intelligence" has increased markedly this season. Like most good QBs, this develops with experience. In Cam's case, you can see it happening with almost every game. That it has taken time is not surprising given how early in his career he was thrust into the starting role.
 
Cam's fine. He's never going to be a classic pocket passer like Brees, so comparisons like that just aren't helpful. If he's making enough plays with both his arm and his feet to win games, I really don't care what it looks like.

This team is built on D and ball control. They aren't a Super Bowl contender by any means, but folks just relax and enjoy a Division win and let the post season chips fall where they may.
 
Cam is plenty football smart. And I don't expect him to be Brees. But he REALLY needs to throw off his front foot (see Elway, John). He gives away at least 100 yards a game not just on incompletes, but on receivers not having the opportunity to catch the ball in stride more often (like he did to Ginn against New Orleans at the end).
 
my 2 cents as an unbiased observer. I love the way this team has come along, and I hope they go far for it.

The passing is a concern....but about as much as it should be for even the Seahawks who are touted as the top SB contender. The Panthers are a sack happy bunch, that can stuff the run better than anyone in the NFC.

Big believer in defense and Carolina has it. They're built to do a lot of damage.
 
The Panthers have a good team but I feel they're still a couple of years away.

The Seahawks have a ridiculously impressive defense this year which is why they are favorites. Defense wins championships.

And even though they won't need it, with home field throughout, defense typically travels better than offense. That should give Panthers fans some hope, should they have to go to Seattle for the Championship game.

Yes, they do, but it is offense the really separates Seattle and Carolina. The teams are ranked 1-2 in defense, but the Panthers are near the bottom of the league in offense. (Now, if Smith and Stewart make it back into the lineup, that will obviously change things for Carolina.)
 
remember the Panthers almost beat the Seahawks at the beginning of the year (when the Panthers started out 1 and 3).
 
so Panther/Frisco on Sunday. They beat them once this year, can they do it again? Hope so! Smith should be back.

too much went wrong today. The Panthers regained momentum in the 2nd period and appeared to be heading in the right direction, but that late td by SF did a lot to erase Carolina's 2nd quarter gains. What's worse, the Niner's had 12 men in the huddle on that play which the refs missed.

more went wrong than that, though. Like.....

-2 goal line stands by SF.
-early personal foul's on Car leading to a couple of SF f/g's
-and then there was that late Panthers drive that netted nothing....even driven out of f/g range. Can't hold the ball that long, Cam.

oh well, nothing left but to learn from your mistakes and gain from the experience

better luck next year, this team is no flash in the pan.
 
Slightly OT.... did anyone else hear Nantz in the late game say "this is the loudest game I've ever seen"? Gerry Ford, is that you?
