NCAA bracket contest?

Does losing to the Heels all the time and being a State fan make you angry.

Maybe if State worried more about its own program more than big brother at Chapel Hill, you wouldn't be irrelevant.

Take away the 2005 championship, fine, they still won the game.

You know you don't a crap about any "academic probation" through some accreditation office. You only are up in arms over it because UNC wins and NC State never does.

Ah, you are up for another lame assed response. Good for you, Count.

It's competition and losing sucks. Hell, I don't like losing jobs to other firms, even if they're my friends. I don't recall you Habs fans being too happy losing to us in the '06 playoffs.

I especially don't like losing to the Holes because they are a bunch of stuck up, sanctimonious, condescending *******s on top of being cheaters. Good lord, man, if you have them as friends, you must know what I mean!

And just so you know, prior to our problems late early 90s, State and Cheat had the same # of national and ACC titles (and NCAA probations) in b/b and were equally irrelevant nationally in f/b. We just have a consolidated University Board of Governors filled with Hole grads and homers that boned us a good one that prolonged our suck.

Part of worrying about our program has to involve a level playing field. You can bet your last dollar or looney that busting the holes back to pre-ACC days would be fine with me and many other State grads.

And I do have to care about the accreditation at Chapped Hole. I pay taxes to run the place, so it is my business. Hell of a lot of research money at stake if they lose accreditation. There are actually things more serous than playing games against cheating *******s.

If you like being cheated, knock yourself out. I don't like it. If you can't understand that, then I will simply have to believe you are as ethically challenged as the Holes running all their scams.

I care. That's not "some" accreditation office. It's "the" accreditation office. You lose your accreditation, you lose government funding, you lose private scholarship funding, you lose faculty. That's the flagship of the 17 school UNC system. Since 1992, my tax dollars have gone into that school that failed its most basic reason for existence. Educating the students. As one of the 60 colleges with membership in the Association of American Universities, they're supposed to be better than that.

The courses remind me of Battier's religious studies degree.

What's the difference between majoring in Religious Studies (a bachelor's degree program at Duke) and any other Liberal Arts discipline? Is Sociology better? Philosophy? Communications? You realize that Duke has a Divinity School, right? It's one of the 13 seminaries founded and supported by the United Methodist Church.

Let them keep the wins, the championships, the banners, whatever symbol of success you want. Hit them in the pocketbook. Whatever your payout from the ACC/NCAA was gets paid back. Want to spread the payments out? Fine, spread them out of 3-5 years. But it can't come from tuition or student fees. The true students, lost paying tuition had nothing to do with it. And make the punishment more timely. It's ridiculous that the "show cause" on former assistant football coach John Blake already expired before the NCAA has handed down whatever sanctions they're working on.

You assume the NCAA can involve itself in purely academic matters. The classes were not "fake". They were legitimate courses albeit easy. If the university says they are valid courses AND all students can take them AND did, then there was no unequal benefit to athletes. Therefore no sanctions.

A. According to UNC's own academic standards (well documented and all public record), those classes that awarded final grades and credit hours without a final exam or equivalent term paper were most certainly invalid for both athletes and general population students ... and for a time frame that went well beyond what they reported to the NCAA. While purely academic issues are SACS arena and not that of the NCAA, eligibility issues hinging on required class hours, etc are certainly in the NCAA's scope of responsibility. Somebody is going to pay that piper sooner or later. That much is clear. Carolina supporters have sadly bought their school's massive PR campaign in too many ways to even count. Again ... there WILL be an NCAA price to pay eventually. It's unavoidable. Now, how that gets applied, to which programs, which athletes and which coaches ... God only knows. To say that the NCAA works in mysterious ways is the understatement of the century. I'm certainly not losing any sleep over it ... on the other hand, see Point B.

B. As a State fan ... the damage is done and it's no good getting angry because that won't change anything. However, as a taxpayer in the State of NC, you can bet your shorts that I'm angry about this debacle and the extended (and expensive) coverups, misdirections and other nonsense from UNC's leadership. It's been a travesty and that's true whether there were athletes involved or not. I do not believe that the so-called reforms instituted thus far are anything close to serious enough in large part because it's clear from the FOIA document releases that they still haven't come clean on the timing and scope of their issues. And again, as a taxpayer I'm paying part of the freight for this mess every single year ... right about now since it happens to be tax season.

When your last big success was 33 years ago people start to lose their minds and make crap up. (of course Toronto has been waiting 50 years)

One of the funniest websites around here is called PackPride. Their latest nutjob fantasy involves Roy Williams dealing cocaine or meth, or maybe both.

Like I mentioned a few years ago , those same people will swear on a stack of Bibles Valvano was forced out over the location of PNC arena. (short version of that story)

Yeah ... EVERY fan base has its share of nuts. But if you think that represents any decent sized portion of the State base ... you know - the ones who actually pay the bills ... then you're the one who's delusional. And before you want to bark back ... those are my people, not yours. I actually know what I'm talking about.

Example ... you think the morons who comment on Facebook posts represent the Canes fan base accurately?

Didn't think so.

IMO, Sylvia Hatchell (the women's BB coach) will be the sacrificial lamb. That much was clear with the Wainsten Report. Ol' Roy got a contract extension, she did not. She had a losing record this year and didn't finish in the final top 20 for only the 3rd time this century

Brice Johnson's reaction after the game tells you how much it means to the players.

Game changed on two plays. Jackson blocked on one end, Villanova gets two. Then Meeks blew layup to put Heels up seven and Nova cut it to three. Booth was amazing. Twice Heels defended down to 2-3 seconds and Nova hit it. Bad call on Hicks when likely was travel but it happens.

UNC did not go inside enough. Meeks had a bad game.

Jay Wright will never be called Jay Wrong again.

I'm sure dinner at the Britt house will never be the same after brother Kris sunk that shot.

Great game and congrats to Villanova. That was a very well deserved and earned Championship.

I get that there were some bad calls in the game, but judging from my first 45 minutes at work today, I am not sure I understand all the talk about officiating. That game was not decided at the foul line or by a call. It was two teams that made some crazy good plays that settled it on the court.....not with an officials whistle.

I'm an NCSU fan, but was pulling for UNC all the way. It was a great game, but the officiating was spotty (both sides) and I can't believe what doesn't pass for "travelling" these days. Differern era, different game. Regardless, the last two shots were simply unbelievable and that is what I'll remember most about this game.

Spotty is a good word for it. Thought a couple of the 7 straight calls on Carolina were ticky tack. One of my Carolina-fan friends congratulated Villanova and their refs. Of course, being a Carolina fan, they never lose the game, the refs take it from them. :wink Travelling? I'm pretty sure a player could go the length of the court juggling the ball in his hands without dribbling and not get called for travelling.

Oh, I agree with that. I just thought the officiating in that game fell WELL short of the quality of play from both teams. Those three got overwhelmed by the game in a way that reminded me of an NHL game called by two of their younger refs. They just didn't handle the moment worth a damn. I know there are some UNC fans that feel screwed over by the calls, but I'm at least fairly neutral and I thought the game was called pretty even ... bad, but evenly so. They missed calls all over the map.

Bottom line ... the kids deserved better than that.
