New York Yankees (2010-2013)

Re: New York Yankees

Wally Matthews: According to a source-with-knowledge, the Yankees priority list is: 1.) Brian McCann; 2.) Masahiro Tanaka; 3.) Curtis Granderson. (LINK)

The source also says he doesn't believe anything will happen with Cano until December, although the Yankees have made a six- or seven-year offer worth $25 to $30 million per.

_____

Susan Slusser: The Yankees are one of five teams showing interest in closer Grant Balfour.

Re: New York Yankees

Robinson Cano didn't win a Gold Glove this season but took home his fourth straight Silver Slugger award.

Re: New York Yankees

The Yankees have announced that all members of their 2013 coaching staff will return for the 2014 season.

Re: New York Yankees

The MLBPA announced all 13 players who received qualifying offers — including Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson and Hiroki Kuroda — have declined the offers.

Re: New York Yankees

The Yankees signed OF Antoan Richardson to a minor-league contract with an invite to big-league camp.

The 30-year-old hit .265/.381/.358 (115 wRC+) with 0 HR and 29 RBI in 369 plate appearances with the Twins' Triple-A affiliate in 2013.

From the GM Meetings:

BryanHoch: Lobby chatter: Source says that the Yankees are definitely serious about chasing Carlos Beltran.

I like this... but I'd much prefer it be a two-year deal than the three- or four-year deal he's reportedly seeking.

Re: New York Yankees

Interesting note from Chad Jennings. (LINK)

Cashman mentioned that the Yankees need "probably 400 innings" for the rotation. That's a pretty clear indication that the team in the market for at least two starting pitchers, not one. Makes obvious sense, and it's not a surprise, but it always seems meaningful when it's spoken out loud. Sets a pretty clear expectation that the Yankees are banking on only one from that Pineda-Phelps-Warren group to play a starting role, at least heading into spring training.

_____

Masahiro Tanaka and Hiroki Kuroda are the obvious targets, but what if things don't go according to plan?

This will definitely be intriguing to follow.

Re: New York Yankees

McCulloughSL: The Yankees plan to tender a contract to Francisco Cervelli, who is arbitration-eligible this winter. Cashman says Cervelli is healthy.

Good news... even better news if he comes into camp as the backup to, say, Brian McCann.

Re: New York Yankees

Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: Free-agent SS Brendan Ryan on Yankees' radar. Mutual interest. Deal could happen quickly.

Buster_ESPN: The mutual deal interest between Brendan Ryan and the Yankees dates back to mid-September; Ryan said then he loved his experience with NYY.

I don't mind this. Love the defence he brings and hopefully he can hit a bit.
Would have to say if he is re-signed though, there's probably a good chance Eduardo Nunez gets traded.

Re: New York Yankees

FeinsandNYDN:
• Source: Yankees talking about a trade for Cardinals 3B David Freese.
• Even if A-Rod's suspension is overturned, he'll likely have to DH a lot. Freese would give the Yankees a solid 3B backup plan.

In a down year, the 30-year-old hit .262/.340/.381 (106 wRC+) with 9 HR and 60 RBI in 521 plate appearances.

thoughts.jpg

Would be a solid option and has filled in at first base with the Cardinals before, so that gives a little flexibility.
I was interested in a potential return of Mark Reynolds and Freese is better, so sign me up.

Re: New York Yankees

Ken Rosenthal & Joel Sherman are now reporting there won't be a deal between the Yankees and Cardinals for Freese.

Re: New York Yankees

DPLennon: Reports in Japan say that new posting system has been approved. Bidding for Masahiro Tanaka should begin soon.

Exciting news for Yankees' fans.

Re: New York Yankees

The Yankees signed 3B Zelous Wheeler to a minor-league contract with an invite to big-league camp.

The 26-year-old hit .268/.340/.421 (114 wRC+) with 10 HR and 45 RBI in 359 plate appearances with the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate in 2013.

_____

The team also re-signed RHP Jim Miller to a minor-league contract with an invite to big-league camp.

The 31-year-old went 3-5 (and six saves) with a 3.55 ERA (3.22 FIP) in 63.1 innings with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate in 2013.

Re: New York Yankees

Carlos Ruiz has signed a three-year, $26 million deal to return to the Phillies.

That's one catcher off the market. The Yankees still have their eyes on the catching prize of the winter, Brian McCann.

Re: New York Yankees

George A. King III & Ken Davidoff: The Yankees have an interest in bringing back the popular and productive Raul Ibanez to be the DH against right-handed pitching.

The 41-year-old hit .242/.306 /.487 (117 wRC+) with 29 HR and 65 RBI in 496 plate appearances with the Mariners in 2013.

thoughts.jpg

I was in favor of letting him go but turns out it was a mistake to re-sign Ichiro instead of Ibanez.
While I don't think the Yanks need a full-time DH, I wouldn't mind this signing because they need to add more power to the lineup.

Re: New York Yankees

Today is the deadline for players to be added to the 40-man roster in advance of next month's Rule 5 Draft.

The Yankees have acquired minor-league INF Dean Anna from the Padres for minor-league RHP Ben Paullus.

The 27-year-old Anna hit .331/.410 /.482 (140 wRC+) with 9 HR and 73 RBI in 582 plate appearances for the Padres' Triple-A affiliate in 2013.

_____

The Yankees have added INF Dean Anna, RHP Jose Campos, RHP Shane Greene, RHP Bryan Mitchell, OF Slade Heathcott and C Gary Sanchez to the 40-man roster.

The team also announced they've outrighted INF Corban Joseph to Triple-A.

Re: New York Yankees

The Yankees signed INF Yamaico Navarro to a minor-league deal with an invite to big-league camp.

The 26-year-old hit .267/.354/.418 (118 wRC+) with 12 HR and 53 RBI in 452 plate appearances with the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate in 2013.

He also had 31 plate appearances in the majors, hitting .286/.333/.357 (89 wRC+) with 0 HR and 2 RBI.

Re: New York Yankees

The Yankees have made their first big splash of the offseason, agreeing to a five-year, $85 million deal with free-agent C Brian McCann.

The deal includes a vesting option for a sixth year that would bring the deal to $100 million and a full no-trade clause.

The 29-year-old hit .256/.336/.461 (122 wRC+) with 20 HR and 57 RBI in 402 plate appearances with the Braves in 2013.

thoughts.jpg

Really happy with this... he'll more than likely end up as a DH in a few years but so be it.
And most importantly, the Chris Stewart experiment is finally over.

Re: New York Yankees

Interesting that ESPN's Buster Olney thinks Alex Rodriguez has played his last game with the Yankees, regardless.

He believes the Yankees will release him after a decision on any suspension becomes final.
