OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Stockwell Day on Power and Politics just now said that we should forgive Ford for the video because who hasn't had an outburst like he had on camera. He then went on to say that there have been times where he was cut off while driving and that he uttered some "not so flattering" things.

I'm sorry, but WTF. Whoever gave him talking points must be on crack as well.

He also suggested Ford needs to lose weight and that an awesome way for him to kick off that next campaign is by running the Toronto marathon.

Hey, Mr. Invisible Crimes.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Just caught a clip of Jim Flaherty breaking into tears at the podium. Where am I?

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

WHAT ABOUT FORD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO THE CITY?
I hope he gets better, but not on our time.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Good point.

The whole thing is incredibly narcissistic. "He's got problems. He's trying. Yesterday's confession was tough on the entire family. It's not an easy time for him. It's extremely embarassing"

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

It isnt just the crack. Actually the crack doesnt matter.

It is the lies about it, the attemped cover up, his staff quitting/getting fired, his brother attacking the police chief, etc etc

really would like a detailed timeline

disagree, it is only interesting because of what he lied about.

Just like with Clinton, oh the right will say it is about obstruction of justice, lieing to grand jury etc but be realistic, he lied about a blow job and that is what they really were all up in arms about

a shrug of his shoulders saying "whoopise, I'm a highly paid professional opinion writer with an ivy league education and a history of taking controversial stances on race using my widely read bully pulpit, but this new hollywood movie just taught me that slavery was acutally......bad. who woulda thunk it? I had no idea!"

I can certainly agree with this point. Sure the school system can take some blame for failing to inform him but given that his education took place over 50 years ago and, more importantly, he is someone who is still commenting on race relations in the 21st century, it would be nice if he put in the effort to know even the basic context surrounding the key institution that defined those relations.

I don't think that is asking for perfection, it's not like I expect him to know the impact of Stokely Carmichael's changing beliefs on the civil rights movement but if he is unaware slavery included harsh conditions because his teachers half a century ago told him everything was fine, it raises questions about what other issues he is misinformed on and the effect that has on his opinions.

Well sure. It is what started everything.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

This Ford debacle is just sad now.

And really, the biggest loser in all this are the citizens of Toronto.

Surely it can't go on any longer though... (felt like I've been saying that for months)

It's not an easy time for Ford. He's really embarrassed! As citizens, we all need to pitch in and do a little mayor stuff for a while.

Hey, Mr. Invisible Crimes.

Yeah, funny that the king of unreported crimes increases wants to talk about talking points. How's he doing? Is he going to run in the next Ontario election to help Hudak, the king of "go work in Detroit if you're unemployed?"

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

It's like every sign of "gong show" that could happen has happened. TWO former wrestlers have now done something weird in relation to it? I feel like if I could come up with a crazier "what next" it'd happen. Tomorrow. With the mayor wearing a Tupac shirt for the press conference.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

How great do you feel tonight if you're Joey Pants, Rossi, Sara T, G Smitherman or any other hack who lost to Ford.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Reading and hearing some of these bleeding hearts, listening to people suggest he should keep his office, this is the insanity that Ayn Rand used in some of her writings. It came across as hyperbole in The Fountainhead, but here it is in Real Life.
He is still the Mayor. Wow.
