Work got hit with another round of layoffs. I was spared, but now I have to leave the apartment to go work off site at a customer. I honestly don't mind though.

I bet many people would agree with you just as long as it doesn't inconvenience them.
Today I was out for my daily walk near my home in the downtown area of the city. My usual route takes me past a church and today there had been an outdoor wedding with about 50 people attending. I noticed that not only was no one even pretending to keep a distance between each other not a one was using a face mask. What really annoyed me was they were congregating on the city sidewalk and made no attempt to make room for pedestrians to safely pass by. On my return, a half hour later, they were still there oblivious to the pedestrians having to dodge traffic on the road to get past them.
I understand that they were preoccupied and enjoying a joyous occasion but don't understand that no on could see the problem and suggest moving on to the lawn beside the church.

I"m slowly getting work again, and we are being asked to get that ACC job done, though they aren't exactly rushing us.
My boss will be the one I worry about so I told him that since I work alone anyways I'm going to keep it that way and avoid him, not go into the office, just stick to the main floor and shop and keep myself apart as much as possible.
I'm not really worried, mostly don't want the hassle of all the fallout for being positive.

Anyone here that works in an office being asked to come in again? Im pretty sure ill be WFH until atleast late fall.

Strong uptick in cases today in Ontario again. Still a lack of testing too. Yeah... We reopened too soon. I don't mind reopening necessarily but I would have liked to see cases trending a lot further down than what we saw. And we happened to reopen at a time when cases were spiking up too. Shades of US incompetency.
The wife and I are moving to Pittsburgh to live with her 75 year old dad. Her mom passed away last July so he's been alone ever since. He's got a few friends that he had been spending time with but was very lonely. Now with everything happening he's been cooped up all alone for month.
We're both out of work due to the pandemic, so it seemed like the right time to head to Pittsburgh while being able to collect unemployment to make it easier financially. Of course it could be pretty tough to find work right now... something will happen.
Looking forward to getting out of Texas. Too freakin hot.

We also have the misfortune of beginning to re-open right when the weather's changing from unseasonably cold, rainy, snowy bullshit to gorgeous spring/summer weather. And a lot of people are having a "give them an inch and they'll take a mile" type reaction to that.

It's too bad because there are plenty of creative ways to take that inch and make it feel like a mile. But idiots are being blatantly ignorant and ruining it for us all.
But in fairness Ford has mostly been all talk during this whole thing. At first I liked what he was saying but he isn't really putting anything into action, especially with testing, and the messaging has been inconsistent. From "enjoy your spring break" one week to "everyone stay home" the next week to "we're beginning to reopen even though we haven't even begun to control the virus at all" the next week.
I'm entirely fine with reopening slowly (and leaving it to the people to practice common sense like using masks and keeping their distance) but with stronger, more consistent messaging I think that could have waited till early July and by then things may have started to get somewhat in control. Instead this was rushed and not really well thought out. It's too bad really. Now we'll probably have to shut shit back down again for the majority of the summer

I think other provinces managed to get their cases down to a level that their testing and tracing abilities justified the easing of restrictions and Ontario just followed suit regardless of whether they were in the same place or not.

Ford has definitely taken his foot off the pedal, but I'm not sure it's been much of a difference maker. As soon as the weather started to turn, I noticed a growing uptick in pedestrian traffic and overall giddiness on King W. People were eager to test the waters after a long shitty winter.
The latest stats are not great, but stats don't move most people.
I'm guessing those out there frolicking don't know anyone who experienced covid directly, so it's an out of sight, out of mind vibe. Meanwhile the beer is flowing, joints are being passed and restaurants are dishing out cheap and cheerful takeout.

Ontario isn't the only place in the world suddenly getting nice weather. I'm not sure it's a great excuse for the leaders in charge. Being outdoors has potential to be a pretty low risk thing to do but dumbasses are going to dumbass I guess. We need to be babied and that should surprise no one.
But my issue with Ford is mostly about being all talk. This thread echos my thoughts on him
Thank you, we're pretty happy about it. As you say, the shit that led to this move suck... but we're happy to be heading there.

No excuses for Ford. Just saying that most people, especially the under 30 crowd, are not hanging on his every word. They're taking their social life in their own hands, for better or worse.

Today Ford emphasized that anyone who feels they should be tested can go to the testing centre any request a test. You no longer have to be referred or have symptoms. If you think you could have it take the whole family and get tested. Of course getting individual public health units to actually do the test on asymptomatic people who show up without a referral may be another thing.

Of course. Until one of their parents die from it because of them of course. That'll lead to a lifetime of regret.
Anyway I was hopeful for the summer being okay. I still kind of am. I really think the outdoors poses a fuckton of a lower risk than the indoors and if they start enforcing the "no Woodstock allowed" thing at these white hipster parks then I still believe we can be okay. But regardless, it's time for the government to have an actual plan to fight this I think.
