OT: MLB Thread

I moved to Vancouver in September of 92 and avoided the worst of it, although Vancouver also erupted in spontaneous celebration when the Jays won. I dont remember any similar outpouring in 93 for some reason.

I was at the grocery checkout line wearing my Expos cap and the cashier asked me why I wasn't able wearing a Jays cap instead. I said "Why would I? What has Toronto ever done for me?"
gave you white privilege, a large mansion in Oshawa, opulence

I could have got white privilege anywhere. And the only thing that the words "Oshawa" and "opulence" have in common is that they both start with the letter "o". For 11 years the view from my bedroom was the GM plant. The fence to the parking lots was about 30 yards from my backyard fence.

"Opulent" as fuck.

you were housed, you had a 2 income family or could have as your mom was a nurse. Unlike my disabled dad and stay at home mom, I came from a poor background and we fought our way out of it without assistance. No silver spoon in my mouth unlike in yours,,,,

What silver spoon was that, exactly? Your dad worked on the MSE and had season tickets to the Habs. My dad was a traveling salesman like Willy Loman and was out if town a lot. My mom was a nurse but only worked part time because she had 3 kids to take care of as well. We weren't going to Florida for any vacations. A rental cottage on Lake George was as exotic as it got.

My dad grew up in a 3 bedroom flat on Belanger Street near St. Denis with his parents, 2 sisters, and an invalid aunt. He didnt have a bedroom or a bed. He slept on the living room sofa. The house we had in Oshawa was the first one my parents ever owned instead of rented and 5 minutes after they bought it the real estate bubble burst and it was worth less than they paid for it for the next 10 years.

And the main reason I went to Concordia is because it's where I could afford to go. UBC wasn't an option for me like it was for you. My parents didnt have the scratch to send me anyplace like that. I wanted to go to Trinity College in Hartford but the tuition was too beaucoup.

No one who lived in Oshawa other than maybe Sam McLaughlin was living an opulent lifestyle. I certainly wasn't.
