OT: Movies/TV Shows

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Spidey looks good. Real good.
I get a little crazy with these re-boots so soon after the boot...even if Marvel is just taking it's own back...but every trailer, every shot and everything I've heard say this Spiderman is going to be Amazing.

Blonde Emma Stone >>>

Love the prospect of having such a tremendous actor like Martin Sheen portray Ben Parker too.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Actually in a pretty neat move Disney bought out Marvel.....smart smart smart.

Not terrible to have Mouseschwitz's distro and marketing behind the Marvel movies....but it does concern me on a quality/final cut level.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

They're going back to the mechanical web slinging as well.

It was an abortion that they ever decided to deviate from the source material. These are comic book movies...you're not trying to sell them for their close attachment with our reality. You're selling the fact that a 19 yr old scientific wunderkid can design a ridiculously strong filament material in his aunt's spare bedroom with makeshift gear.

I've heard some nice things about the free reign that Disney has given Marvel...it's pretty interesting as it follows a bit of the logic that is seen with Pixar and it's ability to remain autonomous.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

up next:

June 8: Prometheus
June 22: Brave (I've got 2 girls, what can I say. Hoping to find a drive-in playing this while I'm down in Georgetown area)
July 6: Amazing Spiderman (3D trailer looked way better than the TV ad)
July 20: The Dark Knight Rises

Misc: Bourne Supremacy, Total Recall, MIB III

Prometheus is my most anticipated film of the summer.

I get a little nerdy when they mess with canon, but I have to admit I thought the idea of biological web was a nice idea given that fact that everything else he does comes via the bite. Mind you, as has been joked about quite a lot...it would have made more sense if he shot the web out his ass.

This is better though. Spiderman was my childhood favourite, I don't mind more of him. I've heard the 3D is really good as well. I'd rather watch it in 2D first, but the 3D trailer is getting raves.

Just caught a view of The Master - Paul T Anderson is taking on Scientology?

Man, Phoenix just nails this teaser....guy does not act enough.

Man, I love PT Anderson... Boogie Nights is an extremely underated awesome film. I'd say his weakest was punch drunk love, but even that on a second viewing had some awesome character development.

Yeah, the biological webbing was more realistic...and wasn't a "bad" idea per se....but **** it, there's no reason to deviate from a comic book story line with such a massive following.

The idiots like you and I are the reason those movies ever had the popular traction to get made in the first place, reward us. I think Marvel studios has shown that the closer you stick to the gospel, the better the movie quality...the more you're rewarded.

I couldn't tell what that was about, but I do think it looks very intriguing.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

The "alien army" was lame, Loki (Hiddleston) was great.

Without Downey Jr and Hiddleston, this movie would have been better on paper.

saw it this weekend. wanted to see some sentiments around here before posting my own, since i'm a bit late in the game.

i agree completely. hiddleston and downey jr were fantastic. ruffalo makes a good banner with his strange/awkward calmness. probably because he's a total loon. in any event, those three turned what was, imo, an otherwise pretty bad movie into a good one.

the aliens were dumb. like somebody else (bbw?) said, it never quite felt like there was any real danger to the city. the pacing was a bit strange. not much buildup. there was an enormous hole with banner/the hulk. for spoiler purposes i won't say what, but it really bugged me and took me right out of the movie. the guy who plays capt' america is also a boring mother****er.

i was pretty disappointed. that was a pretty middling movie. i usually like the comic flicks (though was never into comics or the cartoons as a kid). but this one left me wanting.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

and the whole blow shit up/destroy cities thing has become horribly overdone and is no longer entertaining.

give me a well paced chase that results in some damage.

but just senselessly ****ing up buildings... meh. overdone.

i don't think i'll see spiderman. i dont' think it looks good at all. but i am excited for batman. bale is nothing special but nolan is a very good writer and director (with his brother). ledger's act is tough to follow but imo nolan had something to do with it and i suspect we'll see some similarly strong performances -- with joseph-levitt, neeson returning and even matthew modine (not to mention the talented returning cast -- freeman, caine, oldman) he has a lot to work with.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I feel that people are just happy that Whedon didn't screw up the Avengers, and are mistaking that for it being a "great movie".

As mindz said, great popcorn movie - nothing more.
