Art shouldn't be made without a definitive plan in place.....Lost could have been epic had it been done properly and with a 2-3 season goal, as opposed to starting it, then using it's success as a reason to water it down to stretch it out for as much profit as possible.

Lost was far more interesting when it was about actual survival.
I understand entirely that the majority of the idiots in the great unwashed masses have no interest in actually watching human interaction in a survival setting play out organically and without absurd unnecessary plot twists, but it truly could have been a superb show had they shown that innate stress on the characters as they tried to eke out an existence and deal with one another.
Monster polar bears? Time travel? **** right off.

Well said.....i fear Dexter is going down that road.
Kudos to Breaking Bad for knowing when to leave ona high as well....1 more season is just enough there.

Lost was entertaining the whole way through. They just had to keep the show going too long to be able to answer all the questions it brought up.
Its pretty damn hard to take a great idea for a TV show and then extend it to 6 good seasons. I can't think of too many TV shows that were able to do it.
The gold standard though is the Wire. And nothing else comes close to living up IMO. Maybe Battlestar, but even that got a little weird in the end.

The best shows tend to be the ones that end on time. Fringe, Dexter, Breaking Bad...just a few shows that will end almost exactly on time. (Dexter may have waited too long).

It's gotta be tough in TV land...you have a great show with a definite timeline, but some exec wants the revenue so they try to stretch it out. IMO Lost is one of those.

disagree the plot was written in advance and it all made sense in the end. watching it without breaks between episodes and seasons is better because its fresh in the mind still.
