OT: Movies/TV Shows

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I watched the first episode of The Newsroom. It was excellent! Jeff Daniels was stellar.

Yeah, it definitely has it's flaws (Mortimer's performance in episode one, was a little cringe worthy)....but the potential for this show is fairly big.

Daniels as you mentioned, was fantastic.....love seeing Sam Waterson back on tv....and John Gallagher Jr, as Jim Harper, seems like he could be one of it's breakout stars, was real impressed with his performance in the opener.

If it can find it's groove, and smooth out some of the kinks....this could be a really damn good show.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I was also fortunate enough to see The Amazing Spider-Man last night a few hours after seeing Ted and it really eliminated any lingering reservations that I had about rebooting the franchise so soon after the original trilogy. Just unbelievable. Probably the second-best super hero movie I've seen after The Dark Knight and right ahead of Batman Begins and The Avengers.

Garfield nailed it as Peter Parker and Dr. Connors was a credible villain as The Lizard. The CGI on him was particularly impressive and this is one of the first 3D films I've seen that actually utilises the technology properly. And Emma Stone was an absolute smokeshow as Gwen Stacey of course.

Excellent supporting performances by Dennis Leary and Martin Sheen gave the film a lot of depth and I really like the performance of the new Aunt May as well.

It blows the 2002 series out of the water to say the least and the brief after-credits scene sets up the subsequent follow-up quite nicely as well.

Cmon...nobody is impressed that I read the first four books and almost half of the second in One month + a week? Sheesh. Tough crowd :p

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I keep hesitating on starting GOT because I'm not sure if I have the attention span to truly appreciate all of the intricate details and complexities of the series.

The opener wasn't bad but according to the reviews I read, things go south quickly and by episode 4, it's a rambling, audience insulting mess.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Saw 'Savages', it was good, but not as good as I was expecting.

I felt the same way....Benecio Del Toro and Salma Hayek carried the film in my view.

The 2 kids, specifically Taylor Kitsch were both very bland as the leads, while Blake Lively was just okay.

And it felt like someone kept telling John Travolta to be more Travoltary through the film, as his scened kept going over the top

That said it was good if for Del Toro, Hayek and Damiamn Bachir so i'd reccomend the watch just for that.
