OT: Movies/TV Shows

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I'm watching all of the deleted scenes from Titanic on YouTube right now and it's just shameful how Cameron had to cut so much of the quality scenes he had filmed. They really fit well into the historical narrative:

Everything from Harold Bride trying to convince Jack Phillips to put on a left-belt in the wireless room, to Guggenheim and Astor's last meeting as gentlemen, to the lone Chinese man rescued by fifth officer Lowe on a piece of board, they really had a few legendary circumstances that they had to eliminate from the final product due to time constraints.

Slight Spoilers in the story outline here.....can't wait for this for some reason...sounds like a perfect storyline for Tarantino to direct.

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles - dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South's most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django andSchultz's search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of "Candyland," an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...

Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, DJANGO UNCHAINED is produced by Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin and Pilar Savone. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole. DJANGO UNCHAINED will be released in the U.S. on December 25, 2012, and internationally by Sony Pictures.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

"Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" was great......had a similar pacing to "The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford", so it's not for everyone, but I threw that on late last night and enjoyed the shit out of it.

It was like a great glass of scotch and a fine cuban cigar.....

Now this is interesting. I also watched it last night and had the same exact feeling about it. In fact, I enjoyed it so much, that I deliberately found excuses to take breaks, so I wouldn't run through it too quickly.

Where did you get the movie? Rental? If so,where? Rogers and Blockbuster are closed here.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Watched Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close last night. It started out a bit weird but turned into a great emotional movie.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Sam American reunion tonight.m it had its moments, though I did feel some of the humour was forced. Also seeing it in a theatre full of children who were only 8 when the first one came out was somewhat lame. not to mention that it made me feel old.

The book annoyed the crap out of me....I wanted to like it, but the characters drove me nuts.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

The movie is kinda the same way

It does wrap up well,, which avoids it from being a true disaster.

But the beginning and middle parts are quite painful to watch, and thats not in the sense that i can't handle emotion or a sob story, but this felt so forced....smacking the audience in the face.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I'm not sure I'd go that extreme but year the first half hour or 45 minutes is a bit tough to get through. I agree that they did a very good job of wrapping it up though.

Funny you should say that, as I was thinking of PM'ing you to recommend you to check it out.....because I remembered you were also a big fan of the Jesse James flick, and guessed you'd similarly like this film.

This movie probably could have lasted 10 hours, and I'd have enjoyed ever minute of it......was particularly appreciative of how long the director was willing to linger on certain scenes, and just let Oldman, Hurt, Strong, Firth, Cumberbatch, etc.. chew up the screen.

Given how faced paced virtually every movie is these days, it was refreshing to see a director that wasn't always in a rush to get to the next scene. It's obviously a demanding one for an audience, but he gives you enough time within scenes to digest the information that was being presented, mull it over, and piece it together with the information you had already processed.....somewhat similar in manner to how the characters on screen would, which made for a much more interactive experience than one would normally get from a film.

Looking forward to watching it again, and picking up some of John Le Carré's novels.....

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

It also had one of my absolute top ten favourite actors, Ciarran Hinds, and he didn't even get a mention on the video cover. Has he fallen so far down the totem pole already? Caesar? Lol.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I dunno why I like him so much. I just think he is awesome.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

He was amazing as Caesar. Even though you knew the assassination was coming, I was still a little bummed when he was killed off in Rome.
