OT: Movies/TV Shows

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Haven't seen it, but Bardem took the villain role in NCFOM to new heights.

Wouldn't be surprised if he stole the show.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I was ever so slightly let down by Skyfall as well, although most other people who have seen it rave. Bardem was fan-f*ucking-tastic though, and over all it was one of the best Bonds, just didn't quite live up to the hype.

That said I'm one of the few people who still think Bond should be witty and charming.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

going to see it tomorrow (monday)
not a bond fan so we shall see if it is any good

just watching quantum of solace...and well im on my computer so that should tell you what i think of it

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Saw 007 as well on the weekend.

I with those posters above me, maybe my expectations were too high going in. It was a good film worth the money, and there were some really good performances from Craig, Dench and Bardem, but I didn't think it was a great movie overall. A big problem was that it ran it little too long, just not enough happening at times...if it was a little more condensed it could've been great.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Let this be a lesson to those who were foolish enough to buy into the hype. I had no expectations going in and so there was nothing to be let down by.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Some of my favourite movies were ones that I don't remember the hype... The internet didn't post everyones opinion and so I went in cold.

I find that even great movies can be killed by overhype. There have been many a movie I rented (back in the day) because others/critics said it was amazing, only to be let down.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Any super-hyped movie you should wait a good 2-3 months to see.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

it was not terrible (coming from a very non bond fan)

as for hype only TDK lived up to it

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

I was disappointed by Quantum, so it's why I tempered my expectations for Skyfall. None of the Bond films are flawless, but that is apart of their charm.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Three movies that stand out as incredibly pleasant surprises that I heard zero hype about before seeing are:

True Romance: one of my all time favorites and I hadn't even heard of it before renting it as a new release.

Return To Paradise: another great movie I had never heard of.

Same goes for Ace Ventura. The town I'm from just had the one screen so if you wanted to go to a movie you watched whatever they had. A friend and I took a couple girls to the movie and we didn't even know what was playing. We saw the Ace Ventura poster and almost left cause it looked so stupid. We decided to stay and ended up laughing harder than I have ever laughed in my life.

Happened to catch True Romance in the theater as I was a huge Tarantino nerd at the time...freaked out over how good it was.

That was a good time in my film viewing history. Res Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Natural Born Killers, True Romance.

Did you know that Tarentino sold the script for True Romance to pay for the production of Reservoir Dogs. As a Tarentino nerd I'm sure you knew that.

The two movies that really beat the hype for me in theatres were the Matrix and Pulp Fiction.....and at least for Pulp, there was a ton of hype, especially since it was the only movie i've ever lined up to see on opening night.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

If I'm really looking forward to watching a movie, I'll avoid all trailers, news articles, and hearsay about the movie until after I've seen it. Worked with Avatar, Inception, Dark Knight Rises, and Skyfall.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Just started watching Boss featuring Kelsey Grammer.

Seems like a great series if anyone is looking for a show

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Saw Lincoln the other night. I was impressed with it, though in places the story did drag a bit. I also found that the B/C story lines weren't very well developed, and really felt like they were just thrown in to humanize the script a little more. As such Sally Field and Gordon-Livittt were wasted.

DDL was absolutely superb as Lincoln. There is absolutely no doubt that Lincoln will get a nomination for best picture, however I don't believe it should win. DDL on the other hand definite deserves it.
