Its a breathtaking shot/scene
Not getting a best director nom was a sham
now i know that the movie was widely considered a disappointment, and i think i recall a few around here saying as much. and before i say what i'm going to say i'll add this: i watched it from like 230-5 last night after a night of pretty heavy smoking and scotching w some buddies (winner of the night was a value picked: picked up a bottle of ltd ed dun bheagan 03. a ****in amazing 9 year scotch. it's only $50 for a bottle. spicy. if tha't syour think BUY IT it's the best valued single malt you can get right now imo. much, much better than anything in the 60-90 price point).
but the master ****ing sucked. what a shit movie.
i'm beginnin to think that pt anderson is horribly overrated and the only reason why he isn't considered as much is because three of the greatest actors alive today were in his past two movies and saved them from beign what they are... poorly envisioned films lacking plot development, devoid of characters you can connect with on any emotional levle (positively or negatively), with convoluted scripts and a lack of meaningful dialogue.
now if somebody here says i''m crazy for saying this then maybe i'll rewatch. though i kind of felt the same about there will be blood.
seriously? the pace stunk. he tried to turn a lack of plot development into some sort of metaphor (and it fell flat on its face imo).
and the characters were unrealistic.
i don't want to post a spoiler but i.e. the sloppiness exhibited by PSH's character was just totally unbelievable.
the movie was stilted and boring.
and the hj scene was just ****ed and totally unnecessary.
saved by 2 amazing actors, nothing more and nothing less.
What are your thoughts on Terrence Mallick, Montana?
Oddly enough almost non-existent.....haven't seen Badlands, Days of Heaven, Tree of Life, To the Wonder, or The New World, and I think I've only seen The Thin Red Line once when I was a kid, and before I really cared about film, and I can barely recall any of it.
Just one of those oddities in life, where despite my love of film, I've never gotten around to it.......like the fact I've never seen Schindler's List.

If you like PTA as much as it sounds like here, I think you'll enjoy Mallick. The two employ very similar styles, although the latter does tend to have a bit of a fetish for the natural world and using that to his cinematography's advantage that PTA has yet to exhibit.
PTA has been much more nuanced with his character development but they're comparable.
And get your ass in gear and see Schindler's List. It's arguably one of the best films ever and really is one of the few Spielberg films where I found myself not rolling my eyes at shameless audience heart string exploitation.
Finally started watching Dexter recently. Just finished season one last night. Really enjoying it.
That would be good but why not go all the way back to Darth Bane, the one who started the rule of two?
I've also never seen 'Jaws'
that's a shame, since it is the single greatest film of all time.
No. Just no. It's good film though.
