OT: Movies/TV Shows

Ad Astra: I'd recommend this one. it's visually fantastic, often having a bit of a 2001 feel, and the message ain't bad either. One of the better sci-fi movies I've seen recently (another being Moon).

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood: Although I liked the movie (the scene with Leo threatening himself in the mirror with suicide was great), I'm not sure it's one of QT's best, at least after one view. The Manson stuff seemed like kind of a sideshow and there was a disjointed feel to the movie at times. Really enjoyed a lot of the "period" type shots with the signs and cars etc of the time though. Also, I would enjoy impregnating Margot Robbie.

The Mandalorian: Obviously skeptical going in. Highly skeptical. But honestly, it's not bad so far. The first decent Star Wars content Disney has produced. Several cameos so far too.. Bill Burr was in the last episode. It's hard to make a character who walks around in a space motorcycle helmet emote...but surprisingly, the little tilts of the helmet or body language cues seem to be doing the job. But they seem to be getting the overall feel right in a lot of places so far.

Don't Come Back From The Moon: It's kind of a cool concept, and again I don't mind the message given at the end, but the movie ended up a bit duller for me than maybe it should have been. I did like the soundtrack a lot though(Chromatics etc).

Knives-Out is not nearly as good as the reviews suggest. It's rather dull and the mystery aspect is not intriguing as well.
Craig's detective is completely forgettable.

I dug it as well. The final shots made it for me. If only that fairy tale ending was true, the world would be a much nicer place.

And he should be the easiest to deliver.

I think Man of Steel was a decent, functioning origin story that was maybe a little heavy on the disaster porn and a little heavy handed with Pa Kent's philosophy of keeping Clark secret from the world to the point of peacefully giving himself to a brutal death battered around inside of a fucking tornado.

BvS was a fucking mess though, a complete fucking mess, and they worsened it with the character's treatment in Justice League. There's all sorts of interesting things you can do with Superman, despite him being the original OP, unbeatable character. They really should have been building up Darkseid as the proper baddie from the onset rather than this fucking about with Doomsday (which can only end one way ffs...way to paint yourself into a storytelling corner) and then a Darkseid minion. First trilogy Darkseid, and then kill him off differently with All Star Superman or even really fuck shit up by heel turning him with the injustice storyline.

A lot that can be done with the character that just wasn't.

agree witb BvS, but I think Man of Steel was shallow as hell.

Kent shows no growth throughout the entire film. He just does whatever his last father tells him to do, never fully deciding himself what he wants.

Daddy Kent says hide his secret... He does.

Space daddy says put on the suit, he does.

I don't think there is a single part of the movie where he decides to be superman and why he wants to be superman, someone tells him to, thus he does it.

Then the protector of man goes and absolute wrecks a city killing god knows how many, and doesnt blink an eye, kills zod, loses his mind.

His character is so weird. Looks great though.

I get what you're saying, I don't know if it's entirely accurate though. He "becomes superman" because Zod called him out and basically said come out and play or I wipe the place out. That was the transition point between listen to human daddy and listen to space daddy.

That's about as many characters as I'm willing to spend defending it though. It was a decent popcorn movie with really good visuals, but yeah the story telling was meh at best. I generally dislike origin stories, especially on characters that literally no one needs the origin story for.

That's just it. Clark was a natural birth in a society breed to do certain roles, having zero in terms of choice. Clark was supposed to have the freedom of choice, something robbed from kryptonians. And he spends the entire movie being entirely reactionary, from earth daddy, space daddy and the actions of Zod.

I mean, I guess he kissed lane in the middle of a massacre but that's probably the only real choice he made for himself.

Like you said, popcorn flick that looked great but was as deep as a puddle.

Just to see glimpses of Ragnar's ex wife keeps me going... Damn that is a fine looking woman.

Anyone watching Ray Donovan? Crazy ass show. But its good imo.

If you haven't seen Eddie on SNL...you need to see Eddie on SNL.

Buckwheat singing is maybe the funniest thing I've seen this year.

That Christmas dinner piece had us dying of laughter. I forced my kids to watch. They had no idea who buckwheat and gumby were.

Still awesome though.

I'm liking The Witcher so far. Fairly true to the books, mostly good CGI, and i try to look beyond effects anyways...but Henry Cavill nails Geralt...not crazy about Jaskier though.
