OT: NFL thread

Rams scored on opening drive. Murray fumbled on our possession, they beat Claiborne for long TD. Romo INT for TD. Then we came back. I dont like falling behind either but better to come back from 21 down to win rather giving up 21 point leads like we have done in recent years.

Claiborne was hugged as he could be blamed for two TDs against but didnt give up and stuck with it.

Thanks for the recap.

The Cowboys have to stop shooting their feet off before a game is half old.

Bigger test next week against the Saints in Dallas.

It is better than it used to be. I prefer the college Ot rule just like I prefer the college PI rule spot foul or 15 whichever is shorter.

So Romo proved that he can beat a non-playoff team. That's about as impressive as Luongo getting a shut-out against Columbus.

Getting a shutout against Columbus would actually be impressive....they have a nice up and coming team...they should've beaten Pens in playoffs...lacked a bit of experience

personally, I was pretty impressed with Dallas's comeback yesterday.

comebacks build team character and profits for their backer's as well. Win win!

I know this much, if we lose on Sunday, Wehave will a larger number of comments than he did after a win. Even if the Saints are 1-2 and we are 2-1. Of course, if we win, it will be, well the Saints are crap....

BTW, I will be at the Houston-Dallas game in two weeks. I have already told my business partners if they have an issue with cussing and screaming during a game, not to sit next to me.

Although I admit, I have been calm the last two games. I only expect 5-11 this year so any win is a bonus.

What is it?

Is it as dumb as the CFLs?

CFL's is better.

NFL, if you get a touchdown on your first drive, game over. Anything less and the other team gets the ball (ie if a FG they get one drive to tie, or to get a TD and win).

After that its sudden death, next team that scores wins.

Wow. That is terrible.

What's so terrible about that? It's better than it used to be when the game was basically decided by the coin toss to start OT. All a team had to do was get into field goal range to win. And nowadays kickers are more accurate and can hit longer kicks than back when the rule was first drawn up. So assuming it's a touchback on the kick-off and the team with the ball starts on their own 20, they only need to make a couple of first downs before they're within range.

On Sunday the Seahawks went 80 yards and scored a touchdown. That's as legitimate as it gets.

Aren't the CFL and NFL OT rules similar now? I think the NFL's change to the current system is perfectly fine.

I believe the CFL has each team start their OT drive way up the field?? I don't recall how it exactly works but I remember thinking it was as goofy as their single point handout.

I don't have an issue with the current NFL rules. It's much better than it was before. It's not like touchdowns are gimme either. More often than not teams don't score touchdown on their drives.

Same thing in hockey, first team who scores wins no? There is no rules that says that both teams needs to touch the puck before it counts.

hockey is different though in that defence in football does not score all that often.

As I wrote, I prefer the college rule. Start at 25, see what you do, then opponent gets the ball unless they return fumble/INT for TD. Then other team gets the ball. Keep going until a winner. However, the NFL rule today is better than before

Either that or play a full quarter.

But this format ain't too bad either.
