Thats a cop out. Stadiums and events like the World Cup and the Olympics are financial black holes that take generations to dog out of. One could argue that one of the biggest problems that the city of Montreal has in 2025 in terms of revenue can be traced back to the disastrous decision to go a billion dollars into debt for the Big O. The money spent on the Olympics, the stadium and other facilities, the interest on the debt and the money it costs just to keep the thing from crushing the Metro line that runs underneath it has been bleeding the city coffers white for half a century.
Again, read an economic impact study. It doesn't create any such thing. All it does is REDISTRIBUTE taxpayer money upward to the rich. It doesn't create anything but more poor people.
The only thing around the current stadium is a huge parking lot that it shares with Kauffman Stadium. There isnt anything else around there for miles.

Exactly. If the fans want to pay, they can put some coins in the collection box at the stadium. But while all fans are taxpayers not all taxpayers are fans, so participation in the funding of a stadium should be voluntary, not mandatory.
No, because anything as substantial as funding a stadium would need to go to a referendum and it would lose 100% of the time. And any government that forced a stadium on the taxpayers would be hounded out of office.
The "poors" haven't been able to afford tickets for pro sporting events in years.
