Yeah plenty do play in serie b, in fairness. But they stay there and are never really given a shot to play in serie a. Which I think is the main criticism. At a certain point, it's important for their development to give them some burn in the top flight league and live with some discomfort because that's how they take the next step.

It's like an NHL team keeping a guy in the ahl watching him dominate till they're like 28. Can't think of any team that does that though.
 
Now they haven't had any Totti's in a long fucking while that would make their reluctancy a little more difficult. But plenty of good, just good talent that would have been playing if it were any other league. It isn't just the tie that goes to the vet... The kid has to be light years better to get a shot.

I would also caution about all the youth titles. Some countries take them more seriously than others. e.g. Mbappe and Dembele barely played at youth levels.

Ukraine won the FIFA U20 in 2019 and it has meant SFA at the senior level.

Idk enough but my guess is that they had more can't miss elite stars before. They don't have much appetite to develop good youth in serie A. It's elite or nothing.

Canada beat Panama 3-0 in the opener. Jamaica and Honduras are in our group.

We play Honduras on Wednesday, the Jamaica on Saturday.
