OT: Soccer thread

It's not our resources though. Vancouver WhiteCaps are an organization with no obligation to keep Canadian talent here. Otherwise you could argue they should field a team of all Canadians and no one would dare argue that.

I'm not talking about the Whitecaps, I'm talking about the Canadian Soccer System...whatever it is that the kids come up through in this country...it does suck to think they hone their craft here then **** off.

Of course the Canadian system isn't that great yet, you still see the truly great kids head to Europe to learn...but it's getting better.

This is a generational problem that will only be solved when we've produced enough talent to field a decent international team. When that happens, a lot of these kids will choose to stay instead of bolt. With that said though, we'll still lose kids to top 20 football nations regardless, the thought of playing for a top footballing nation is just too appealing.

Are these losses a pain in the ass? Absolutely, but it's a sign that the development programs are working, are producing talent.

Just to piggyback on that point, every nation loses talent to other nations. Diego Costa left Brazil for Spain for instance. The trick is to develop enough talent that missing out on one or two is a footnote, not a front page story.

The whitecaps academy is certainly part of the "Canadian Resources" they play matches in BC leagues and are using Canadian Talent to build a team. As a supporter of TFC i would never want to see JDG2 wearing our kit because he is a traitor (and he has recently said he would like to play for TFC at some point).

I would feel the same way if Jordan Hamilton/Roubos/Osorio had chosen to play for another nation. It's your choice but in no way will I support you or should anyone that wants/hopes/dreams of seeing canada succeed on the international level

Has Julian de Guzman even played a single minute for Holland at the World Cup yet? I haven't seen him out there once in their games.

But seriously, guys like Begovic who were taken into the country when he probably would have gotten killed by a landmine or artillery fire at home and then **** off to their birthplace after thousands are spent on their development here?

**** them.

Jonathan started the first game of the WC for Holland.

Yeah, it's hard to compete with that shit and I don't really blame these guys for bolting to national programs that have legitimate chances at not just competing in the WC, but advancing to knock out stages and potentially winning a WC.

Compared with what we've been able to offer our internationals, it's not even a real decision.

Exactly. Definitely not a loss if he's that much of a failure to standout that one can't discern between him and his brother.

Not sure how a half-black Filipino born in Canada qualifies as Dutch anyways. :lol

With JDG2, begovic, hoilett canada makes the hex and we would have had a very good shot at seeing them in Brazil.

There really is no excuse for us not to qualify for every single World Cup given the federation we play in. We should be like a similarly-sized, similarly wealthy country like Australia, another Anglo country in which there is a major national sport that gets most of the funding (rugby) but in which football has more people playing at the youth level.
