OT: The F*cking Science Thread

I have Hakk's. Great tires overall.

But can you imagine how much these will cost?

I had some studded Hakk 2's on my Focus. Unbelievable tires... driving on ice was like driving on pavement.

$1,200 for 4 tires... worth every penny.

I have the SUV version of those in 18's for my X3. Cost alittle less than that...glad to know about 200 a tire now.

Yeah, unfortunately the tire size on my Focus was "rare." I think they were only 16's but they were really low profile.

320/tire for my truck so I opted for Hankook IPikes and X-Ice3 for the suv.

Read nothing but great things about the Hakks though

A billionaire fashion designer says scientists have found a way to reverse his ageing process, it seems.

Bahamas resident Peter Nygard says he is receiving stem cell therapy and that a study from the University of Miami suggests he is getting younger, the Bahamas Tribune reports. "They are looking at me, and my markers have shown exactly that I have been actually reversing my ageing and getting younger," the 70-year-old says.

He adds: "I am taking perhaps more stem cell treatment than anybody else in the world. I have been doing it for four years now, so I am sort of a testimonial that this stem cell really works."

Nygard has reportedly been advocating for stem cell research in the Bahamas. A recent change in the law would allow medical centres to open there, though the country's attorney general denies Nygard was involved in the drafting of the legislation, The Bahamas Weekly reported.

No idea if this is legit or not.

Last Tuesday President Obama met with top engineers and Pentagon people. He publicly said: "Basically, I'm here to announce that we're building Iron Man [...] Not really. Maybe. It's classified." People laughed, but the truth is that yes, the US military is building Iron Man, and the first prototypes are coming in this June.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — One night late in 1979, an itinerant young physicist named Alan Guth, with a new son and a year’s appointment at Stanford, stayed up late with his notebook and equations, venturing far beyond the world of known physics.

He was trying to understand why there was no trace of some exotic particles that should have been created in the Big Bang. Instead he discovered what might have made the universe bang to begin with. A potential hitch in the presumed course of cosmic evolution could have infused space itself with a special energy that exerted a repulsive force, causing the universe to swell faster than the speed of light for a prodigiously violent instant.

If true, the rapid engorgement would solve paradoxes like why the heavens look uniform from pole to pole and not like a jagged, warped mess. The enormous ballooning would iron out all the wrinkles and irregularities. Those particles were not missing, but would be diluted beyond detection, like spit in the ocean.

“SPECTACULAR REALIZATION,” Dr. Guth wrote across the top of the page and drew a double box around it.

On Monday, Dr. Guth’s starship came in. Radio astronomers reported that they had seen the beginning of the Big Bang, and that his hypothesis, known undramatically as inflation, looked right......

Here's a video of the Prof being told about the discovery. It's really quite moving.

It's been less than two weeks since they dislocated my left hip, cut off the ball, stuck a titanium rod into my femur and made a new cup for the ball joint...and I'm walking. I still need crutches or a walker, maybe one more week until the cane, but that's still crazy, remarkable, and great.

****in science eh?

Wow, that's phenomenal. Good to see that things are progressing BB&W. Good luck with the rehab.

I'm looking forward to it.
My Physio girl is pretty cute and since it's my hip, so many of the exercises I do require my abdomen that I'm going to get into better shape as well.
I already took 15 lbs off, now I need to tone and tighten.

My Uncle just had his knee replaced, it's amazing and wonderful to be Canadian, 'cause how much would this have cost in the states?
