OT: The M-Fing Food Thread

It's a deal that comes around once in a while, it's not an every day thing. I just double checked and the bags are 907g and not a full kilo, so 3.6 kilo for 80 when it happens. Next time I see it I'll share with the class.

The thing about "ultra processed" food is that it's usually jammed with a shit ton of salt, sugar and then food additives that even if they're "safe" probably don't promote a healthy gut biome.

The processing piece would be more or less fine without all of the added food science. But then it wouldn't be so delicious that it's addicting, and shareholders would see lower returns, which we obviously can't accept as a society.

I'm the opposite of a coffee snob but I got that way out of necessity/shift work in emergency services. Keurig, Tim's, local spot, Starbucks? No problem, won't turn up my nose at any of it. I've had great coffee in Italy and Indonesia, it's not that I can't tell the difference I just find it comforting either way. I do find generally yeah, Starbucks straight coffee is not great. I'm usually doing a coffee beverage there.

I recently moved to a town of about 1400 though so my local neighborhood spot actually does great coffee very affordably.

Processing is primarily used to remove the bad stuff that can harm humans and to extend shelf life, which has contributed to solving a lot of world hunger. It just so happens that the most popular ultraprocessed foods are empty calorie, non nutritional, high caloric and/or high sugar addicting junk. It's not the processing itself that does much of the harm though, and that's where the confusion lies.

I mostly agree, but I find Keurig just horrid and I can't anymore. I have a french press travel mug that I use daily at the office. It's not the best, but definitely a step up from a Keurig. Just grind a week's worth of beans at home and keep it at work.
