OT: The News Thread

Really?

Because I knew a ton of teenagers growing up that either smoked weed or played with airsoft guns. Most of them went to post-secondary education and got jobs.

I don't see how any of that puts into question the narrative of what happened that night, nor does it excuse second degree murder.

So. Why weren't THESE the pictures the press decided to use to portray poor trayvon Martin?

http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/23/justice/florida-zimmerman-defense/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

Asked and answered:

"Is the defense trying to prove Trayvon deserved to be killed by George Zimmerman because the way he looked?" Crump said in a statement released Thursday.

"If so, this stereotypical and closed-minded thinking is the same mindset that caused George Zimmerman to get out of his car and pursue Trayvon, an unarmed kid who he didn't know. The pretrial release of these irrelevant red herrings is a desperate and pathetic attempt by the defense to pollute and sway the jury pool."

Of course it puts the media narrative into question. It smashes the myth of the angelic little 12 year old innocent baby that was allegedly hunted for sport and executed by Zimmerman for no reason whatsoever. The photos show an obviously smashed up face on Zimmerman. The evidence shows that Martin was probably dealing, and definitely using drugs, and he was also moving a weapon or weapons. It shows a troubled kid who was kicked out of his house by his mother for being a punk.

You forgot something important silly. Only good right wing christians are allowed to partake in the American gun culture. Minorities and heathens need not apply.

Could you imagine the howling from the NRA and it's acolytes if a picture of a gun was taken from Zimmerman's phone and used to attempt to prove a damn thing about his character?

I would explain to you why you're an idiot, but you would just wave your arms around and shout some echo chamber culture warrior bullshit.

You are though, a complete idiot.

Look at the pictures of Zimmerman. His face is busted up, he obviously had his nose broken, we saw the previous photos of the back of his head busted up, and now we see that trayvon Martin wasn't some innocent little 12 year old probably just out buying skittles.

I have problems with what Zimmerman did and I said that from the beginning. But what was more troubling was how people like you guys were literally calling for Zimmerman to be immediately found guilty of a capital crime.

Nobody has contested the fact that there was a confrontation between the two. The issue is, that one of the two people involved went looking for it. The one who went looking for it was the one with a loaded weapon and a recorded history of violence.

and now we see that trayvon Martin wasn't some innocent little 12 year old probably just out buying skittles.

Entirely irrelevant. He could be the leader of the Crips and it wouldn't ****ing matter. What we see is that Trayvon was a 17 yr old black kid...hooray. He had a picture of a gun on his phone...so the **** what? His gun...dunno. Doesn't matter. Gun ownership isn't illegal. Aspiring to gun ownership isn't illegal. We know he smoked weed...again, ****ing irrelevant.

This is complete fiction based more or less entirely upon your prediliction to completely and utterly (I would argue willfully...you don't post to discuss, or even argue, you're fighting a ****ing holy war against "lefties" in your addled head) misinterpret the statements of other people.

No one can deny that jcy was stringing Zimmerman up immediately and had summarily declared him guilty. He went into pages of hysterics when I tried to suggest to him that perhaps there were mitigating factors involved and we should wait for evidence before passing judgement. I never ever said that what Zimmerman did was entirely justified and that he should be getting away scot free. But I think it is entirely plausible that he saw someone acting suspiciously, he confronted him, a struggle ensued, it was life and death, and he shot Martin thinking in all honesty that it was in defence of his own life.

1 person, even if your recounting is accurate (and I vividly remember him telling you that you're insane in how you attempted to pigeon hole him into that), is not "you guys"

Idiot.

If that's honestly what you think happened...you're a ****ing reprehensible human being for thinking that Zimmerman is remotely justified for doing that. Especially considering what we already know about his phone call to 911, being told directly by the 911 operator to stand down. You can't simply throw yourself into a dangerous situation because you have a gun and start shooting because now you're defending your life. His actions were entirely dangerous and ridiculous, and your defence of his actions (even taking your interpretation of events as the plain facts for a moment) is stupid. The underlying racism and right wing hero with a gun fantasizing here is powerful.

Insult, insult, right wing wacko, play the racist card. You've gone through the full playbook. Bravo.

Hey, if you're going to be a cartoon character, you're going to be called one. In your twisted world view, the kid smoking weed and having a picture of a gun actually means something to this case. Act like a rational human being, shape your arguments on something substantial, and you'll be treated better.

A breathtaking pile of garbage.

Treyvon the Innocent Child came back to attack someone who was a fair distance from him. Given the photographic evidence, it was obviously violent. Which then sets up the question of self defense.

Right wing, left wing and all the garbage spin in the world does not change those facts.

My arguments are based on something entirely substantial. Those photos released today showed a significant busted up face and nose, that make it entirely plausible that this was a fight to the death and Zimmerman shot Martin to stay alive.

Actually, anyone who suggested that it wasn't open and shut or justified, was broadsided with a fuselage of "racist".

I think that, in the end, this will end a pretty "open and shut" case. And I do believe there has been at least some racism involved in how it went down. I mean, Zimmerman was clearly profiling, and to be allowed to walk free from the scene of a gun death....I have a hard time believing that Leroy Jenkins is able to do that.

Irrelevant though. Zimmerman ignored the order of the 911 dispatcher to avoid the confrontation with the unknown person. Zimmerman put himself into a situation by actively seeking a confrontation. Just because he found the confrontation he was looking for, and it went badly for him, is not legal justification to kill. He put himself in that situation by blatantly ignoring the advice/order of a trained 911 dispatcher.

Whether it's plausible that his life was in danger or not, it's irrelevant. He made the decision to put his life in danger. There's a reason his legal team passed on their chance to have the pre trial hearing that is required in the 'Stand Your Ground' laws.

He's ****ed.
