OT: The News Thread

Been saying this all along, this has potential to blow sky high, you have Russia and Ukraine beyond a boiling point and now you have rapidly increased tensions between the states and Russia as well, we could be gearing up for a massive war if things keep on this path.

At first a military vehicle, said to be equipped with Russian-made Buk missiles, is seen rolling down a road and then a compilation of voice recordings starts with a man allegedly called I Bezler, a rebel group commander, boasting to a Russian military intelligence chief about hitting an aircraft.

“We have just shot down a plane,” says ‘Bes’.

A man alleged to be Vasyl Mykolaiovych Geranin, a Colonel of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, is then quoted as saying: “Pilots? Where are the pilots?”

Bes responds: “Set off to search for the shot down plane...A plume of smoke is visible.”

Major: “The plane broke into pieces in the air... There is the first two-hundreth (dead)...It’s a civilian.

Grek: “How are things going there?”

Major: “Well, we are 100 per cent sure that is was a civilian plane.”

Grek: “Are there a lot of people?”

Major: “F**k! the debris was falling straight into the yards.”

Grek: “What plane is that?”

Major: “I haven’t got close to the main wreckage. Now I’m nearby the place where first bodies started falling.”

Major (cont): Here are remnants of internal brackets, chairs, bodies...”

Grek: “Are there any weapons?”

Major: Nothing at all. Civilian belongings, medical scraps, towels, toilet paper.”

A third exchange then purports to include Cossack military leader Mykola Kozitsyn and an unnamed militant telling him of “a sea of bodies of women and children” being found and that debris had “Malaysian Airlines” on it.

Kozitsyn is alleged to have replied: “Well then it was bringing spies. Why the hell were they flying? This is war going on.
****ing morons. This is an unbelievable tragedy, but hopefully it finally moves the needle when it comes to Europe's response to the Russian state-sponsored murder and terrorism that's been going on in Ukraine for almost half a year now. How can it now? 173 Dutch, 44 Malaysians, 28 Australians, 12 Indonesians, 9 British, 4 Belgian, 3 Filipinos, 1 Canadian, 1 Chinese and 1 New Zealander were just murdered by Russian special forces.

The dead also include dozens of top international AIDS researchers (potentially up to 100, according to some reports) on their way to a conference and three infants, for good measure.

0 americans on board is an interesting twist on this.

This kind of forces the other countries to take the lead here.

Yeah, this is the first real Geopolitical test of the EU. Is Germany going to stand for this?

Nato actually seems relevant again for the first time in decades thanks to the sanctions on russia, but yeah, this is definitely a bigger test.

This really should push the US into streamlining their process to approve LNG exports to Europe. The glut they have in the US could seriously carve up Russian market share of the energy market. They lack infrastructure on both side of the Atlantic and one of the strongest messages they could send as a united front is "**** you, we're building LNG shipping terminals in Virginia & France, and a **** ton of pipeline...your move Vlad". That, with a strengthening of sanctions and a request for NATO advisors/observers in Ukraine would be a strong, united message from EU/NATO

And they weren't receptive toward your offer to mediate the dispute, were they? Such a shame; all the bloodshed could have been avoided

TORONTO - A 24-year-old Ajax man was among the 298 people killed aboard a Malaysian airliner brought down in eastern Ukraine Thursday, the Toronto Sun has learned.

Andrei Anghel, a University of Waterloo graduate, had been studying in Romania, according to a friend who requested anonymity.

Anghel's parents contacted Malaysia Airlines and confirmed their son was aboard the ill-fated flight, the friend said. Anghel had been planning a vacation to Bali with his girlfriend, who was also aboard the jetliner, he said.

Well ****. This hits closer to home than I thought.

Putin needs to go away, though I don't know if the next person in line would be better or worse. A boycott of the 2018 Word Cup might help.
