OT: The News Thread

No, it's not.

But as of now there are no signs that this was done by the Conservatives. The only link is that the company involved has been previously employed by the Conservatives before.

Tell me that will stand in a court of law. Not a chance. So until actual proof comes out you and Pat Martin may want to hold back.

Once a link is proven between the party and this company, the court of public opinion will issue it's ruling. I can't wait to hear your excuses then.

I honestly hate when any side spends so much time talking about stuff like this. Get an investigation going and stfu. I mean its cheap to score points on this stuff. Every side does this to some level. It really detracts from all the other important policy stuff going on.

Ignore is a pointless feature on this site lol Any time someone quotes, you get to see the posts.

In any case...

blacksheep...If I remember correctly you were one of the people really pushing the "contempt of parliament" charge against the Cons. I was angry with what they did but that was another case where you could argue against that notion pretty easily. The Liberals were pushing this way too hard..."this has never happened before" blah blah blah but not one expert could tell you with certainty that they did something wrong. So to be specific, I'm talking about people wasting time on stuff that clearly needs to be investigated, like corruption stuff. Acting with certainty that there was wrongdoing when there is no real answer.

The stuff that Trudeau said was not relevant or helpful for good discourse but what he said was available for all to see, you could clearly judge it, in its full context, and people could make a conclusion either way.

People suggest that the "Harper Conservatives" have ruined political discourse in this country.

I think it's the other way around. There is so much hatred on the left for anything conservative that the Liberals and NDP are almost literally frothing at the mouth at all times, ready to pounce on even the leanest of stories.

A trumped up contempt of parliament charge was one of the most obvious examples.

Maybe that's why KB came back? lol!

Of course nobody could say with certainty. It was all done outside of view, with the hope that nobody would notice. It's not like they held a press conference to announce their intentions to **** with parliamentary rules, nor would anyone reasonably expect that from a government intending to do so. That's why the intense charge at the time - to reveal the truth of the intent.

I posted that quote of his simply to post my opinion of what he had to say. That's all.
That it ballooned into another pity session for HabsAss is very telling, and quite humorous, actually.

Therein lies the lesson: don't act like a pretentious attention whore for no reason.

I wasn't the one who launched into a multi-page diatribe against P.E. Trudeau and the FLQ, complete with Nazi pictures and a revised account of what actually happened - all over a simple quote from a wanna-be PM.

The contempt charges brought against HarpCo were legit imo.

Not even in the slightest. How many would Mackenzie King have gotten over his 25 years in office? The man was a complete and utter *******. What about Trudeau? It was a low-brow political tactic that set an awful precedent for Parliamentary discourse in the future.

There is nothing wrong with pointing out what is going on, that is the oppositions job. The issue is that the Liberals made it their campaign focus to accuse the Cons of circumventing parliamentary rules while at the same time not doing the honourable thing and just calling an election. No, there is nothing wrong with a coalition under the rules technically but it's also only happened once since Confederation. Why would Canadians be any more comfortable with that notion?

I think the electorate would be a lot more involved if we didn't focus so much on scandals that weren't even investigated yet and if the party's provided people with more clear contrast between their positions and the way of doing things. Ie If the Liberals just called an election instead of even entertaining the coaliation idea. If you really believe the Cons are doing this, that's pretty serious..do the BIG/right thing. But of course they didn't do that because they knew it was ridicilous to go in with that as their focus for an election.

I'm not even engaging. It's the same shit over and over.

Conservatives = mean, nasty, terrible, ruining the country.

Nothing else matters.

You mean a legitimate boondoggle of wasted millions?

Meech Lake cost us more than millions.
Charlottetown Accord cost us more than millions.
Airbus cost us more than millions.
Karlheinz Schreiber cost us more than millions.
The GST cost us more than millions.
I'll take wasted millions and a huge surplus over wasted multiple billions and major deficits anyday.
