OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Dwayne Casey is not a good coach. Like, at all.

I've held this unpopular opinion for a while now...yeah

He's a very good assistant coach with the right attitude for getting a lot of our professional basketball players. His tactical side is abysmal though.

Over playing and over working him through out the season.

Casey's man management is really poor. He has a deep roster that he just doesn't use because he's so guard heavy. He has Lou & GV that in a lot of sets can run PG and instead we run Lowry into the ground with 34.5 mpg and a USG of 25.3%

He has the ability to go big (Val-Hansbrough-JJ-DD-GV) and never uses it. His use of JV has been questionable, but his misuse of JJ has been criminal. How, this late in the season, is JJ still playing behind Terrence Ross?

I still think we should beat the Bucks or Wizards in the playoffs, but it's a closer call than i want it to be.

Very little confidence we could beat a Chicago or Atlanta, and zero chance against the Cavs.

I would really love to see a Lowry-DD-JJ-PP-JV lineup down the stretch more often...as much as I love Amir, he's getting beaten to balls he used to get and should play less minutes overall.

How did the Raptors manage to become one of the worst defensive teams in the league recently?

They get crushed on the pick and roll and then blame Valanciunas for being poor against the pick and roll....which is kind of true, but the thing with defending the pick and roll is that you don't have to chase the ball handler over the top all night. Make him hit shots. Yeah, you might want to chase Steph Curry over the top on the pick and roll because he'll shoot the lights out if you go underneath and he gets to pull up without a hand in his face all night. But 90% of the time, let the ****ing guy go, dump under the screen.

Instead we make Val try to defend a ball handler coming off of a screen 20 ft from the rim and we get torched on it...then Casey uses this as an excuse to play Patterson over Val (thus going small, usually putting us at a huge rebounding disadvantage), because Patterson does a much better job of forcing the ball handler.

Raptors shot chart so far this year. Yellow is league average shooting percentage and the warmer the colour, the better the shooting percentage in relation to league average from that spot. Size of the hexagons is frequency.

Demar really came to play last night. Outperformed Harden, and carried the team on his back, both of which were huge. Big efforts by Amir and Val too.

Nice to see them really battle and hold on down the stretch against one of the top teams in the league, injury-riddled or not.

Hopefully this is the start of a strong finish to the season, pretty sure our schedule is very easy down the stretch.

And if this game demonstrates anything, it's that when the game is on the line, the ball should be in Demar's hands before Lou or Lowry.

I also just realized Val has the 4th best FG% of qualified players... he needs to see a lot more of the ball.
