1) Maybe. They need another guy...maybe not a Kawhi guy, but another guy of the same calibre of Fred/Pascal anyway. Get that guy, catch some lighting in a bottle with some of the bench guys we develop/add over that period and maybe.
2) Why does the greatest Raptor ever deserve to be treated like the greatest Raptor ever? Because he's the greatest Raptor ever. Nobody good is giving Lowry 30 million a season next year either. That's not the market we're competing with for him. If he's ring chasing, he'll be doing it on the relative cheap like most other veterans before him.
So it's kind of a two fold problem that we sit somewhere in the middle of. There will definitely be bad/young teams interested in over paying Lowry to bring championship leaderbeans to their organization and we can't afford to match that. So if he wants one big ol final contract, we'll see you at Kyle Lowry day in Toronto every year, take care. Similarly if he's really ring chasing, short of us landing that "guy" I mentioned above, he's probably going to see other teams like LAL, LAC, Philly as better destinations who could absolutely use what Lowry does. In Philly & LAC they badly need a floor general and LAL could absolutely use Lowry the way that we did with he and Fred on the floor together, as the off guard/floor spacing option as well as a primary ball handler when Lebron is getting rest. But they're all capped to fuck, so he's taking less to go to any of those.
We kind of sit in the middle. We can easily pay him 15-20M x 2 to bring him back and we can also do that while going out and getting a guy to run it back with.
