I don't follow basketball much anymore but if some liability is the best guy that they could possibly get then you might as well just keep him, no?

and I'm not quite sure where I land on this yet... but lean towards recouping assets at present (with the caveat that Kyle should have a say in anything)
 
Define good assets?

a recent 20th overall pick in Precious Achiuwa just might be a good gamble. Maxey was 21st overall last year and could be a really good player. Herro had a hell of a run last playoffs. Lakers have nothing imo.
 
A good asset for me is one that has a reasonable expectation of being a legit quality starter for a contender.

those 3 names look like bench players to me, or flawed starters for bad teams.

not that I am aware of.

the issue is that most teams competing for a chip are capped out. Lowry has a like $33 m cap hit. So in order to clear enough space to fit in Lowry, they have to find a way to clear about $33 m. it is basically a money in/money out situation (similar to the Leafs).

And if you're the Raps, there is no benefit to taking on a bad contract beyond this year. So all of a sudden the list of tradable assets shrinks in a hurry.
 
and further to that, many of the top dogs have already blown their draft pick loads in previous deals. ex. Milwaukee for Holiday; LAC for Kawhi and PG, etc.

I just want assets, good young desirable assets. Trade it all for a stud in the summer. I want a retool, not a rebuild.

Depends on if both teams involved are over the cap (the 1st cap, not the luxury tax). If you're under the cap, you have to salary match only if the trade brings you within 100K of the cap. So if the cap is 110, and you're sitting at 80, you can bring in a player making 29,900,000 without sending any salary back.

Have to salary match within 25% if both teams are over the cap if memory serves but there's a bunch of exemptions and fuckery involving the apron, the luxury tax, etc.

We need a deeper retool or close to a rebuild . Pascal could be sacrificed in the summer as part of a package to bring a better player onboard

Norm and Kyle are gone and our bench stinks , much work to de done

The key is a hard tank rest of the way with a prayer for a high lottery pick and multiple extra first with deadline deals
