I was really hoping that it wouldn't go this way. That they'd stay competitive for the rest of his career and there'd never be any reason to deal him away at the deadline. Because I honestly can't think of any Toronto sporting star from my lifetime that got to just wrap up their career on a good Toronto team, instead of getting dealt away or leaving as a free agent---usually after the team ended up becoming bad.

At least for once though, it's bittersweet instead of just bitter, because this long-time Toronto star got to win a championship here and play a starring role in it.

I'm not. I still don't see a better basketball job available for him around the league.

- Knicks just hired a guy and they don't suck for a change
- Wizards are a complete tear down gong show and for reasons I've mentioned before, I don't see Leonsis throwing a % of ownership at him like people have mentioned
- Pat Riley still likes his job
- Nobody is replacing Ainge in Boston
- Who the fuck is replacing Kobe's agent in LAL?
- Clippers maybe...but Frank was the guy who went and got Balmer all of the toys he wanted.
- Nets have new management as well that have done pretty well for themselves in the acquisition department

I'm honestly not sure where he's going other than here. I figure Masai is just playing this out to see what he's worth, and then will circle around to T-Bomb with a number on a piece of paper. T-Bomb nods and it's done.
 
That too, I just look at it a bit more basic than that. There's only 30 of those jobs in the NBA but only about 5-8 great markets. Would Charlotte fire their entire executive team into space if Masai wanted to go there? Sure. But the premium jobs are spoken for at the moment. It's the good markets/bad organizations and bad/bad that are left for him to choose from.

If he wants the job in Washington (which is actually a brutal market but keeps coming up because something something proximity to NGO's for his charity, and Leonsis is going to find a way to sever his corporate structure to give Masai a piece of the team), yeah it's his. If he wants the job in Houston, also probably his. Chicago? Probably not.

If there was a job opening in a premium market, I'd be pretty concerned. But there isn't. This smells like leveraging the fear of losing him to pull more money out of MLSE's bank vault.

League office would pay a fraction of what MLSE will pay him. Leaving the league entirely to do Giants of Africa full time is the most likely thing if he leaves Toronto imo.

Though taking 10+ a year for 5 more years, and handing it all over to Webster at 41 yrs old (36 now) makes more sense to me.

Are you sure that his next job will be in basketball? From what I have read through the different media outlets this past year it is that he has other options, other than basketball (don't remember the related articles, sorry).

Yeah...that's my guess as well. IF he leaves the Raps, it's probably to do something outside of the NBA but still basketball related.
