Because Minnesota is and continues to be terrible. There's been rumblings of him not being happy with all the losing and their recent moves to address that (D'ro, Beasley) have failed spectacularly. The kids (Edwards, Culver, upcoming high 1st, etc) are still years away on top of that.

He's under contract for 3 more seasons after this year, he wouldn't have to want to come here. We would just have to win the trade bidding for him.

With that said, he would want to come here.

I'm not sure that example is making the point you want to make. Kawhi got the hell out as soon as he possibly could, and that's after the org treated him like Jesus and catered to his every whim and we even won a title. not sure what else we could do to court the big American star.

Toronto has excellent Tacos. Much better than Minneapolis.

If Kat played out this long finishing last with the T-Wolves, he would play out 3 years challenging for conference titles in Toronto.
 
Big big big chance for Mr. Paul Watson the rest of the way. He's kinda played his way into the rotation, has loads of talent, and the team needs his scoring more than ever.
 
and I'm just saying what we need to do if we want to win again. Detroit is the only team I can think of that won with pure depth (without a top 10 player) and I'm good with trying to build that way as a matter of culture, but you always have to be looking for a top 10 player who is available and willing to do what is necessary to land them. KAT is the next one likely to move.
 
Ideally we find a way to get a non-American star here, although we may need to be patient with that.

Or could we put together a package for Bradley Beal?

I completely agree but I still give us a 5% chance at best to land KAT. The Wolves have a new coach, they've had some injuries and who knows? they might end the season on enough of an upswing to give everyone one more shot of hope that things have hit bottom
 
Fair enough but it does say “so far” and they’re a bad team. Besides that article, there has been trade talk involving him for awhile.

...his analytics are bad but not as terrible as I thought.

...they come in legit starting minutes and usage.

...he's still very young, with this his 21yr old year not his 22yr old year.


On the downside, his measurements aren't great - 6'4" without shoes, 6'9" wingspan.

Still, maybe a bit more upside than at first glance.

we need to draft our next top guy...think that scenario gives us the most probable years of control.

good news is, we seem to draft well with this regime.

and he keeps vocally affirming his commitment to DC. if that's not enough for you I'm not sure what will be... I mean of course he could be traded, but there is now a substantial and growing body of evidence that supports the idea that he wants to and will stay in DC

Agreed but they had 5 solid starting defenders and each was arguably a top 5-7 player at each position , unheard of with a championship team .

It will be a daunting task to replicate that roster in a cap world unless you have a few rookie scale contracts and players on the quick development curve .

Norm was a nobody at 22 , Trent has legit upside .....great pick up

Norm is now what Trent hopes to be but isnt that far off
