OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Because by pretty much every statistical measure but blocked shots and 3pt%, Lee is superior, and in a lot of ways (rebounding, offensive awareness) is vastly superior.

Lee is probably the worst defensive "centre" in the league.

His stats are a lot to do with how poor the Knicks are, and how thin they are in the front court. I mean, the guy is a nice hustle player and all, but he would not be a 20/10 player on almost any other team with a certified big man. Plus he has very limited range, doesn't block shots, and is not a game-changer the way a guy like Bargnani is.

So again, the stats are lying.

Awesome, that seems to be the defacto stance whenever Bargnani is clearly, clearly overmatched.

Lee scores efficiently and rebounds like an animal...I have a hard time seeing why his stats are inflated playing with nobody in particular in NYC.

I thought that your stats suffered when you played alongside great players, now they suffer when you don't play alongside great players. It's awesome how many contrary arguments have popped up in this thread, and it all seems to depend which side of the argument Bargnani is on at the time.

You guys are ****ing lost, the whole group of you.

Yeah, we're all crazy, 6'9 David Lee is a superstud and prototypical game-changing center. Also crazy, the 30 Gm's who didn't want to offer him a huge long-term contract last summer, forcing him to go back to the Knicks on a one-year deal in September.

and way to take the Lee contract situation out of context. He was a restricted free agent and the Knicks had no interest in locking him up with long term dollars because they're saving their sheckles for the 2010 "frenzy"

He's not really a centre though in fairness, more suitable at powerforward...though with that said, Bargnani is more suitable at powerforward as well.

Nothing. That part is already obvious to everyone else here.

Which would just make them wrong too.

20/12 vs 18/6

Bargnani is a better defender by a fair stretch, but Lee is at least his equal offensively and one of the top rebounding bigs in the league (while Bargnani is one of the worst)

Like I said, take this to a basketball board and see what type of reception you get.

we would unquestionably be a worse team, offensively and defensively, with David Lee over Andrea Bargnani.

We should have Gerald Wallace as our starting centre.

Same rebounds as Lee, but triple the blocks.

Buddy, when did I make that argument? When you get over yourself for a minute, you'll realize that not all of us have the same opinion.

Stats are stats, but you can't tell me that David Lee would be a 20/12 player on LA, or Cleveland, or any of the top teams. The rebounding numbers would probably come close if he played the minutes he did in NY (which is doubtful considering how much of a liability he is defensively), but the scoring is way inflated because of the fact that there is no one else there that can score.

Look at his numbers a few years ago. Hovering around the 10/9, 10/10 mark, while still playing close to 30 minutes a game. The Knicks then began to suck donkey balls even more than they did before, and they began to sell off all their players to prepare for the 2010 free agency period, and the guy doubled his scoring output as a result. It's not tough to see. The guy is a nice hustle player and I would welcome him on my team, but Bargs clearly has a higher impact on his team with his range, quickness relative to his size and his back to the basket game, where Lee is virtually non-existent.

Oh, and to steal ME's next rebuttal, David Lee has the best EFF of any centre in the league, ahead of Dwight Howard and company, further showing the flaws in the statistic.

Lee's a nice player but I love the development of Bargnani...Lee is a brutal defender and can barely get off the floor.
