OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

So really unless you combine it with someone you don’t get anyone of much value. Unless it’s a first contract guy underperforming

Moar F5 season

- Pelicans are apparently mulling the idea of sending the 4th to Minnesota for the 11th and Covington
- Celtics are trying to give Aaron Baynes away. Freeing him up will give them 23 million in cap space (total)
- Golden State have picked up the 41st pick in the draft from Atlanta for 1.3 mllion and a 2024 2nd rounder.
- Atlanta is trying really hard to turn their 8th and 10th overall pick into a top 3-4 pick
- Brooklyn is apparently having 2nd thoughts on signing Kyrie now that there is almost 0% chance of KD coming with him
- Speaking of KD, it's not definite that he goes back to GS, apparently max deals will be available from other markets he's interested in regardless.
- Tobias Harris is interested in going to Brooklyn, but seems to prefer going back to Philly.

This is really a horrible look from front to back for the ACSO

- The cop wasn't remotely professional in any sense of the word. You hire police officers at events like this because they're supposed to be security specialists of some level. Part of being a professional at an event like this isn't just being a rage monkey when people have the wrong credentials. It's understanding who the VIP's are and understanding that events like this have certain people who are kind of a big ****ing deal to them. If the cop didn't know who Masai was, that's on him, regardless whether Masai had his credentials or his cock in his hand

- This nonsense over Masai not having the right credentials. Sort of a carry over from my 1st point. He had legitimate event credentials in his hand and he's not a random, he's Masai ****ing Ujiri. Masai doesn't have the right arm band? Oh, no worries Mr Ujiri, this way sir, enjoy your victory congratulations. The thing that undercuts this entire line of excuse from the ACSO is that almost ****ing nobody of any value was wearing an armband during the ceremony. None of the Raptors front office, none of the NBA head office, none of the media. Literally nobody other than true randoms who know someone important enough to get them floor access.

Lots of moving parts here.. if high level execs required additional credentials, somebody dropped the ball getting them to him. Whether that's an NBA employee, or even a Raptors employee - it was a major issue.

FWIW, I don’t give any Kawhi “news” any credence.

Anyone making predictions on what he’s going to do is 100% spitballing.

Yes and no. There is a "verified" poster on one of the Laker forums that is apparently a high level employee for AEG (owner of the Staples centre) and he's gone in prety significant detail about the type of access the high end NBA reporters get and as he's Lakers connected, he's spoken quite a bit about Kawhi lately. He admits that the Kawhi camp doesn't tip their hand at all about where he's going to go, but there's a lot of information that can be pulled from what the business aparatus around Kawhi is doing. He's specifically mentioned the discussions with New Balance they're having (New Balance would love him in LAL) as well as some of the things the Lakers have been told to prepare as part of their pitch meetings with Kawhi gives input as to what's important for Team Kawhi to talk about with potential suitors (in this instance, Uncle Dennis is apparently pretty convinced that Kawhi can have the same type of marketing impact KD has, but a step down from Lebron).

So while reporters don't have access to the inner workings of Team Kawhi (they just aren't leaky at all, and the general feel among media types is that even team Kawhi doesn't know what Kawhi wants until he wants it, he doesn't even really talk to them), they do have tons of sources in the business machinery that operates around the league. Sponsors, Arena management, marketing firms, agents, etc.

problem is its easy for them to say that now that they're fans, but would Shaq have ever actually stayed in Toronto? no way.

He seems pretty hyped to be going there (including not working out with any other teams) and he has family from there. Guess we’ll see.
