This is kind of a dumb point, made even dumber by trying to compare it to the Tavares/IslesFan situation.

Looking at how things have turned out from a competitive standpoint for Kawhi and the Raptors individually so far and regretting the missed opportunity doesn’t equal “hating on Kawhi for going home”.

And it’s not akin to the Tavares situation in just about every conceivable way, aside from a guy choosing to play in his home town.
 
I'm not blaming or hating on him for going home.

That doesn't mean we can't judge the decision as a bad one or even cheer against him.

whatever you need to say to convince yourself you aren't a bitter person.

The two situations are comparable, you just like that John came to the team you root for.

I mean fair, but cheering against him says alot more about who you are as a person than you probably intend it to.

There are a lot of dudes in the NBA to hate on. Basically all the Nets, Lebron if you still want.....Kawhi aint one of em.
 
JT went to Toronto because Toronto = Home. It helped that Toronto was already a good team.

Kawhi went to LA because LA = home. It helped that GM Kawhi created a good team out of the Clippers.


But at the end of the day, at the root of it, they both left for the same reason. Home Sweet Home.

I disagree with this. We are sports fans. None of what we do is rational. It says nothing about who we are as people.

And liking one cause he went to your hometown, whilst hating the fans bitching that he left and also bitching that a star left your team for another place in a different sport is incredibly hypocritical.

Yeah i think you're wrong. If you are one of those people that thinks as a fan, said sports star owes you or your fanbase something over his own personal joy there is an element of selfish aloofness to you, and if you're going to hold a grudge because that same guy went to play close to home, also says something about you.
 
The man came here as a hired gun, exceeded the highest of expectations and won the city of Toronto a major sports title. Then wanted to go play closer to home. To all of a sudden turn and hate him/not root for him after that says something about you
 
Nah sports are our outlet to be ridiculous and irrational and let our emotions run free. If someone wants to cheer against Kawhi, have at it. Any anger towards him is irrational but the dude put his blood sweat and tears into Toronto for a year, won them a ship and just left. You can't say it doesn't hurt even a little bit. So do you be a grown up and understand his decision or do you continue to be an irrational sports fan and cry about it? Either option works for me.

I mean I'll readily admit I'm a little bitter and hurt.

I respect his decision.

I'm grateful for the championship.

But it fucking sucks that he left, and I'm not ready for him or his new team to succeed again yet. Fans are allowed to be emotional sometimes.

It was always a one year deal. Expecting any more than that was just wishful thinking. Raptors got a championship out of it. Leonard owed the Raps absolutely nothing. Be bitter all you want, it's your right as a fan, but I'm good.

Oh, I’m definitely a bitter person.

But bitter about Kawhi leaving? No, not really. Again, it just sucks from a "what could've been" standpoint. And it sucks because it hasn't really worked out on the court for either Kawhi or the Raps for the past two seasons (assuming this report about Kawhi being out with an injury is true).

And again, the parallels between Kawhi and Tavares begin and end with a free agent going to play in their hometown. That's it. The situations leading up to either man's decision, the reaction of each fanbase...literally everything else is not comparable at all.

And funny enough, no, I very much don't like that Tavares came to the team I root for. I was one of the few around here that was always opposed to signing Tavares to a long-term deal.

OK...hold up.

In your mind, any Raptors fan that doesn't actively cheer for the Clippers to win a championship with Kawhi is in the wrong?
