OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

For all the griping, isn’t the best way to proceed to keep getting the bpa and then capitalizing on the right trade opportunity?

Yes. But in this specific case the question is whether Graves is the BPA and how you define that. The odds that Graves turns into an analytics positive bench player is probably pretty good. The odds that he turns into a starter calibre player is imo extremely low (he didn't even start for Santa Clara this year).

I'm willing to give our scouting staff latitude because yeah, I didn't understand the CMB draft pick either, but the approach doesn't seem to be picking this type of player because BPA and then trade them for other types of players. This seems to be the organizational philosophy on how to build a winning team. Run 3-4-5 of these guys out there together, and I have deep doubt about that as a winning model when the rest of the league is trending towards guard skills at as many positions as possible.

Bobby seems to be indicating they will target a guard or two in trade or FA.

Bobby Webster on addressing the PG and C positions:

“There’s two more avenues to do that. The draft is one, free agency is the other, and trades. We’ll turn our attention to day two of the draft, then get to trades and free agency.”

“What we’ve been stockpiling, and what we’ve been patient on over the past couple of years, having a lot of assets, having our first round picks, having players under rookie-scale contracts, that’s allowed us to build and be the youngest team in the playoffs.”

“But at a certain point, we want to be opportunistic in the trade market. We’ll look to do that over the course of the summer, and even into the trade deadline next season.”

A couple of centres I like on the board that might make it to the 50. Veesaar if you like a stretch 5 (.426% shooter) who has some two way upside, but we'll probably take Onyenso because 9'5 standing reach, blocks everything and has no offensive skills.

I'll be happy with either. So we'll take neither and some 5'10 point guard who can't shoot but defends his ass off will be our pick.

Or a long ass defender that can’t shoot isn’t tall but has long arm and dick with a motor

50. Toronto Raptors

Jaden Bradley | 6-3 | 22 years old

Jaden BradleyArizona
A fearless floor general who can be a backup PG if he can score outside the midrange.

I love Bradley’s fearlessness. He was one of the best players in the country in big moments last year, leading Arizona to the Final Four. He makes excellent decisions and is a gamer.

I think he needs to work on some of his base-level skills to become an NBA rotation player, however. He needs to get better at fighting through screens on defense. He needs to improve his vision as a playmaker, particularly when looking outward. And he needs to get more comfortable shooting 3s. This is a great profile for a team to take a shot on as a two-way player, but I couldn’t get to the level of a multiyear guaranteed contract off the bat.

Hollinger’s analysis: Bradley somehow won Big 12 Player of the Year over the player taken 49 spots ahead of him. He has a good midrange game but has been weirdly reluctant to shoot 3s his entire college career. If Toronto can stretch out his perimeter game, the Raptors might have something. Grade: B
