OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

From CBS:

The Blue Jays announced Sunday closer Sergio Santos, who has been sidelined since late April with a shoulder injury, will have season-ending surgery. Santos had continued discomfort in his last throwing session, which led to this decision. Santos will have surgery focused on his labrum. His rotator cuff is fine and the team expects him to be ready for spring training. Casey Janssen, who has been filling in as the team's closer, will continue in that role.

Might as well shut santos down and get his arm fixed right.

Encouraging news, is that Morrow through a 20 pitch bullpen the other day withno pain.

Getting him and in another sense, Romero back is huge.

From CBS:

Back in spring training ? Is this a realistic expectation ? When Janssen had the same surgery done was he not gone for a year then took another year to regain his form from before the surgery ? Granted he's turned out amazing now, but we're talking 2 years here lol

and jays central is talking about Janssen being converted to a starter lol

Yeah, getting Morrow back and Romero "back" would have more impact than any arm we'd be likely to trade for.

#Pirates so serious about Justin Upton they're sending signals they could include Starling Marte in an Upton deal -- but not Cole or Taillon

If Marte is a piece that makes a team "so serious" about Upton, I would think AA could/would top that pretty easily.

They should just have Villanueva start in the rotation next year, he may not be a great starter but he's consistent and doesn't seem to get hit hard very often. Granted as I'm typing this he allows a double, but still. I like him as a 4th/5th starter.

weird with villy.

His K numbers are amazing in the bullpen, but whenever he's become a starter they've not only dropped, but dropped pretty much to an unacceptable level.

This time, though, his bullpen Ks have seemed to follow him to the rotation.

Viilanueva said in an interview a while back that he wasn't physically prepared for starting last year and so ran out of gas after a while. He said he focused on improving his endurance if the call to be a starter arose again and feels he's in much better shape to handle the load it brings. I like the guy. Not the greatest numbers, but he brings a cool demeanor that is important for a pitcher in the starting rotation. He was solid in this role before he tuckered out last season. He looks like a solid 4/5 guy if he can keep it up.

Yeah I've noticed the same, which is odd because he doesn't seem to pitch any differently. He reminds me of Marcum a lot in that he doesn't have overpowering stuff but can strike out guys with his change or curveball. I bet if the Jays just let him stretch his arm out through spring training and let him start he'd put up solid numbers.

Gose, Marisnick.

It would be hard to consider Marte on par with Gose...being 2 years younger, sporting a similar stick (though not quite as good in fairness) but vastly superior wheels, BB rate, and defence.

But that's probably the closest we've got in the org.
