He seemed most excited about upgrading or relocating spring training facilities.
Well that does need to be done.

Why did this have to happen now. Just needed one more AA offseason to get us over the top.
My takeaways
1) He's not as slick as he thinks he is, borderline smug
2) I get not divulging anything as far as offseason plans, but this reeked of a motivational speaker/team building seminar. I'm not sure i've heard so many business buzz terms that while sound smart, mean actually nothing. ( How many ****ing times can you say process)
3) He found a way to not actually answer many of the questions asked
4) The talk of the importance of high level prospects being sooo important scares the shit out of me. Like Blair i can totally see him dealing a player off the roster for prospects
5) Talked out both sides of his mouth. Under the right circumstances he'd do a 7 year deal, but only if it made sense from a risk standpoint. His first comment was how smart he thought the policy was.
6) **** this guy, I'm frightened.

That's literally the best stance to take though. "For the right guy we'll do a 7 year deal but it's probably wise not to hand them out willy nilly". Isn't that what we've been pining for?
Yup.
I took from the press conference that there will be no taking their foot off the gas. They want to make the playoffs again next year.
Mike Wilner: It feels like I have been spending 5.5 years trying to convince Jays fans that Alex was a great GM. Now they all jumped on board and are outraged when 8 months ago they were calling for him to be fired.
:facepalm
Whenever they put this weirdo on TV he never misses a chance to take a swipe at Jays Talk callers or Twitter. He is such an odd duck.
It's also true.

At no point did he saying winning next year was his top priority or that Rogers would go all out to win next year. He just talked about building a team that is a consistent winner. But everyone says that. You did?
You did?
Couple of things here, # 1&2: agreed.
#3: hella-yes.
#4: high-end prospects are important and nice to have. Let's not pretend they're irrelevant.
#5: People whine and cry all the time about this policy, but the bottom line here is that while Shapiro was smart in answering this one (I don't believe in absolutes), Beeston was right. They almost never work out. So you have to weigh the risk in the decision, you're a fool if you don't.
#6: isn't this always the case, though?
Yep. He always circles back to "we need to build a team that competes for a championship every year."
