OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Shit...the Mets just signed Alonso for 4/120...so 30 million a year for his 31-34 yr old seasons
This appears to not have happened, by the way... Unless I'm missing something. Still on that 2/54 deal with an opt-out this offseason.

As for Vladdy, the constant whining is pretty silly. It's extremely likely the last couple of years in the deal are going to suck, but it will be fine if he can just provide great stats for 5-7 years and 1 or 2 league average.

It is fair to want a little more from him though. On a team a little light in power, 13 HR (what is that, a 23-24 homer pace?) from your $500 million slugger is not good enough. I'm not particularly worried though, advanced stats are always good and he could continue to play at this current pace all year, and still win league MVP next year. Stud just entering his prime.

Got ahead of myself. On a re read of the MSN story, he's "expected" to opt out and sign a 4/120 extension. The overall point still stands though. The going rate for a 1B of less than Vladdy's ability, around 30 yrs old is in the 27-30 million dollar range. Freeman signed in 2022 long term as a 32 yr old at 27 million per to cover the likely end of his career as well.

The Braves got Olson for cheaper of course, but they didn't walk him free agency before signing him either and did the thing with a few years of control left.

It's tough to justify walking the guy every time someone is on base. But shit, don't give him anything to actually hit when pitching to him.

Can't fault them for not walking to bring the go ahead run to the plate. Does that rule really get broken when up 2 runs and still relatively early? I'm okay with the decision, but not with the pitch selection there.

The Jays have walked Judge more than any other team this year. Sometimes you have to pitch to him. Wasn’t a bad pitch either just caught a bit too much plate.
