Chad Green has hit the open market..

After the Toronto Blue Jays designated Green for assignment on July 29, the team announced Monday that the 34-year-old reliever has cleared waivers and been released.

Green’s last appearance for the Blue Jays came in Game 1 of last week’s doubleheader in Baltimore when he allowed four runs and two long balls in the loss.

The shaky performance brought his ERA to 5.56 on the season and shot him into the lead among major-league relievers for home runs allowed.

Toronto signed Green as a free agent ahead of the 2023 season, with the longtime New York Yankee coming off Tommy John surgery.

Green spent most of the 2024 season as the Blue Jays closer, picking up 17 saves while filling in for an injured Jordan Romano.

Now that Green, a 10-year MLB veteran, has cleared waivers, he can reject an assignment to the minor leagues since he has more than five years of service time.

Yeah, it’s a coincidence. This is how baseball seasons go. Ups and downs. That’s why it’s useful to step back every now and again and look at the aggregate. This team is in first place, but has been lucky with the W-L record.

I personally expect that the deadline additions will help offset some expected regression, and optimistic they can probably hang on to first place.
Lucky to be in first, but through a combination of events, and those events could continue to some degree---Yankees shouldn't be able to make first, I can see a couple other teams doing it, but so could we...this year.

If his babip keeps correcting towards his career average, there's a solid chance Bo puts up the best offensive season of his career this year.
