OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Jose Canseco would do 500+ in career earnings today. Probably way more than that.

I mean his earnings are 100 today with inflation
Yes, if you live like it has to last you for the rest of your life and not like a young and wealthy athlete. But there's a reason a lot of athletes used to go broke within a handful of years after they finished playing and that doesn't happen nearly as often anymore. The pie has gotten way, way bigger.

I don't think you have to spend lavishly to blow through that. 50 is really 25 after taxes and agent fees. 25 is spread over ~10 years, and a lot of these guys take care of a bunch of people. A lot of them divorce after their playing days are over, etc. Can it be set up to be a completely generational nut? Of course. But that requires a kid in his 20's making more sophisticated financial & life decisions than most of them are capable of.

Were some underlying stats bad or something during his brief 10 inning no runs stint? He only gave up a few hits, a few walks. What was broken about him that they sent him down?

His underlying stats were horrific. Wasn't missing bats and was a walk machine. The upside is that if he's willing to convert to the pen and gets an uptick in his velo from that, he might make a pretty good option. He's had a plus fastball in the past.
