OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

They won’t be sellers because Atkins is trying to keep his job. Best thing for the franchise would probably be to bring someone in now that doesn’t have a stake in it and let them evaluate if they should make a push for a wildcard or retool a bit for next year. They have a couple of veteran pieces they could move to try to restock the system. Not a lot of depth in the minors so it will hurt if they trade more futures at the deadline.

Then in the off-season, you hand the reins over to an experienced, proven winner. Someone like Anthopolous 😡

They won't sell because barring a 20 game losing streak, they won't be out of the chance at the playoffs. I mean, we saw that literally 2 years ago where the team was a good way back at the deadline, but then went on an August run and just barely missed.

I don't know how often they update, but Fangraphs still has the Jays with almost the same chance of making the playoffs as the Orioles, and the 4th best chance of winning the World Series in the AL (after TB, Texas, and HOU).

Not to say that they can't still use some house cleaning. Atkins has definitely failed to account for pitching depth woes this year. And the team is in a funk and something needs to change.

Hopefully Manoah can build on his good rehab start. I'm guessing he gets maybe 2 more minor starts. If they actually found the issue with him and he can come back after the ASG, that would be big. Ryu started rehab too I think, so he should be back around the trade deadline. Maybe those guys coming back will give the team a jolt.

It’s crazy how we went from Anthopolous and Beeston to Atkins and Shapiro and it’s all because Rogers wanted his little soldiers instead of AA who knew how to win and how to build. The fact AA had to budget just to not ask approval for the major deadline trades is pathetic

In fairness, they built a good looking team on paper and spent money. It should be better than it is. Maybe still will be if Manoah comes back and reverts to form.
Can't blame them for Manoah forgetting how to pitch. We can blame them for not having even a AAA callup who can pitch at replacement level to fill in. Even if you have to overreact to bring in someone because the AAA arms are hurt, they should have done something rather than just hope that random bullpen games would work.
