I'll add this. They better win, because im struggling to find a world where they fire anyone now that they made the playoffs. I guess not winning a game vs the Twins would qualify.

This is where all of these " gamer" guys and "playoff specialists" like Varsho are supposed to make a difference, cause we certainly lost alot with the bat swaps .

Minnesota is also very left handed, so not only would i have all three of Kikuchi/Genesis/Mayza in the pen, i would probably have Kikuchi/Berrios as a tandem for game 3 regardless of the state of the series

I think you have to win with Gausman, i dont want this team having to win while behind 1-0 and losing with their ace.

For the pen, Richards, Garcia are only a break glass in case of emergencies or a blowout. High leverage should be in order, Hicks, Romero, Mayza, Swanson, Green, Cabrera, obviously lefty v righty appropriate.

Not sure exactly what the Twins do but here's how they look vRHP this year:

* LF Wallner 206pa, 172wrc+
* DH Julien 355pa, 152wrc+
* 1B Kiriloff 260pa, 136wrc+
* C Jeffers 236pa, 131wrc+
* RF Kepler 392pa, 127wrc+
* SS Castro 275pa, 120wrc+
* 3B Solano 292pa, 118wrc+
* 2B Polanco 252pa, 115wrc+
* CF Taylor 276pa, 75wrc+

* OF Buxton 257pa, 110wrc+
* IF Farmer 237pa, 92wrc+
* IF Correa 444pa, 91wrc+
* C Vazquez 277pa, 54wrc+

* INJ: 3B Lewis 183pa, 164wrc+

well that's pretty terrifying, especially if Lewis makes it back. it might help that they really like using Vazquez at C even if he can't hit a lick. let's hope they keep him in the lineup.

maybe we should start Kikuchi.

vLHP

* DH Jeffers 94pa, 156wrc+
* CF Taylor 112pa, 146wrc+
* 2B Polanco 91pa, 128wrc+
* 3B Farmer 127pa, 119wrc+
* SS Correa 136pa, 115wrc+
* 1B Solano 152pa, 112wrc+
* RF Kepler 97pa, 108wrc+
* C Vazquez 76pa, 107wrc+
* LF Castro 129pa, 82wrc+

* OF Buxton 90pa, 65wrc+
* 1B Kiriloff 56pa, 37wrc+
* OF Wallner 46pa, 30wrc+
* UT Julien 48pa, 22wrc+

* INJ: 3B Lewis 56pa, 123wrc+

still pretty dangerous.

Read this earlier;

As far as the catcher playing time, Jeffers has outplayed Vázquez all season, usually by a pretty wide margin. With that said, there’s almost no chance the Twins will start any catcher three days in a row, so the decision comes down to who starts the first and third games. Pablo López and Joe Ryan had better numbers when paired with Jeffers, while Sonny Gray’s splits were pretty neutral, so it’s seemingly an obvious choice to go with Jeffers twice and Vázquez once.

I would strongly consider finding a bench spot for Spencer Horwitz, and honestly considering the lack of LHP in Minny i might strongly consider leaving Davis Schneider off the roster.

regardless, it's a ridiculous suggestion
Except it isnt.

This team is not great offensively and have a ton of situational bats. Biggio is going to start against every righty in this series at 2B. If the twins lack LHP in the pen when is Schneider going to PH? What purpose does he serve defensively or as a pinch runner? none at all. You need to win all the matchup wars when you have a ton of platoon bats. This series lends itself to having Eden ( because we have way too many slow runners) and as many LHH as possible to counter the heavy RHP staff that Minnesota offers.

it's still not a good enough reason to take Eden over Schneider, it's not even close.
Eden serves a very important purpose.

We have way too many guys who could not score on a single from second base, and no one on the bench is fast.

Now at current juncture, im replacing Espinal with Eden, who is basically useless, but if Schneider isnt going to play i'd consider Horwitz.

Eden, the guy that just got his first hit of his career? Over the guy who is just cooling off a bit after one of the best starts in MLB history?

Who gives a shit about lefty righty matchups on every single player? Maybe drop Vladdy and Bo too then.

They're still going to have like Thielbar or Funderburk (wtf?) on their roster. They might not be pitching in the 9th in a tie game, but still might be a big spot where we want Schneider to be hitting.

Although odds are, they will drop 2 pitchers from the current roster (Parsons and Ryu?), and go in with 12 pitchers and 14 hitters. Then you can keep both Schneider and Eden on the roster. I doubt there's any other deeper roster moves.

It's going to end up being Jansen that hurts us the most. With Kirk being so slow but the only real catcher we are going to have situations where he's going to kill us on the base paths...besides that, just having Jansen in general is this years Cecil IMO

It's hard to believe a rested 9-man bullpen wouldn't be enough for a 3gm series, but i guess you never know if you get some crazy extra innings game.

And yeah a pinch runner would be very nice to have, with guys like Belt and Kirk on the team.

I'd probably go with just 12 pitchers, but I could understand if they still wanted 13. I'm not sure that Schneider would be the guy i'd drop though - there might be better arguments to drop Merrifield or Espinal.
