OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Everything that could go wrong for them this year, is. It’s a write off.
Despite that, they could still make a late season run. But yeah, I don't really see a reason to sell prospects in a desperate hope. If they fall further back you do have to think about unloading Gausman and maybe Varsho. But could just stick with them in the end, and at least with Springer coming off the books, that eases a little of the finances for next year

Like they are still like 55% to make the playoffs cause the AL is ass, but i think Springer is cooked ish, Vlad will rebound some, but enough to get him where this offense needs him to be? i am starting to doubt it, maybe after the ASB ( he better decline the invite), the pen has too many meh guys and we have too many just okay to good and flat out bad hitters.

I think you can add smartly. Guys with term, no issues there, sneakier adds as a RHH, or depth pitching/dumps for lesser prospects? sure, but i'd be out on Skubal i think

Im worried they just slot Santander in that DH role and go internal.

The FA crop for bats is also quite putrid.

Varsho is a tough guy to extend, the D is only just really good now, not elite, but th arm is gone and hes lost a step, and the bat is kinda just is what it is, fine.

The issue with Vsrsho is I just have no idea what a longer offer for him makes sense. Like I think if giu can lock him in for like 5 years and 90-100m, I'm fine with that. But he's someone I worry someone might just want to go a little wild on, and suddenly you need to go 6+ years, or hit 25+ a year.

I probably pass and offer a QO

MLBPA might be down with some of those things if the early career money comes through like those other leagues. These guys who don't make the show until in their mid 20's and turn into 2-3-4 WAR players who are making like 22 bucks an hour until they finally hit free agency at 31-32 yrs old are a fucking tragedy. Even worse are these relievers who show up, have a few high end years before falling apart and have fuck all in career earnings to show for it.

To me this is all so strange.
Baseball exists in the real world, and while I understand players not wanting a cap, a system that allows a team to so grossly overpay players that it skews the entire market should not be workable.

A bunch of grown-ups should be able to figure this out.

They should be able to figure it out, but they're pretty far apart and there are many issues to work through. The bottom line is that either players accept a cap with a shitload of caveats, or the owners accept no cap with a shitload of caveats. Until one side or the other figures this out, we're in limbo and 2027 season is in jeopardy.
