OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Floyd looked old, slow and done by Mayweather standards. The amount of explosiveness he's lost since even the Berto fight is significant. Was still way, way too much for Mac though.

Lasted much longer than I expected.

Everyone wins in this. Both make a **** ton of money and Connor gets a shit ton more exposure.

The internet can be great sometimes.

Bodog had it at +2300 but recently changed it to 230. My buddy just got the email citing the glitch

Here are all the posted props

I don't gamble but weren't these odds a near slam dunk for a reasonable return betting on FM?

I was hearing that your return was about 15% on a few hundred bucks not bad IMO on as close to a sure bet for a win.

Taking bets on other props such as a specified round KO is way more risky .

yup... you could clearly see the difference between a boxer and a fighter... Since this was a boxing match, Floyd could not be beat. Just like if this were a "fight", Macgregor would kill Mayweather.

How can Floyd stay retired? He's mow through that 100 million in no time. He was broke before this fight (Somehow).

He wasn't broke. He's using rich white people tax deferring tricks. But because he's a black athlete, and black athlete's and their spending habits are a societal narrative, the media assumed Floyd was broke when it became public that he owed the IRS money. Similar to when the media said 50 Cent was broke because he declared bankruptcy...which was just rich white people financial kung fu meant to limit his exposure to a judgement he received from a lawsuit he lost.

When rich white people do this stuff we never hear about it. Rich black people though? It's their lavish spending habits!!!!

Smart.

McGregor was completely out of gas at the end but Floyd looked like he was ready to go run a marathon still. You have to give it up to the guy.

I think McGregor did better than anyone expected him to, but nowhere near enough stamina to get it done.

It fairness, 50 has said he is broke. And he gave reasons why it seemed he was wealthy all these years.
There's been odd things for years about Floyd not being able to pay his bills. I see what you're saying, but he is paying 2000 a week on haircuts. He's bad with his money.
Also, the media has given as much publicity to the odd spending habits of white guys like Nick Cage and Johnny Depp.

50 was full of shit. He used chapter 11 to settle 36M in debts for 23M (which were attached to two lost court cases). He cried poor the entire time to help sway the proceedings. As for faking the appearance of wealth, yeah he used to take pictures with a bunch of cars, but also owned a bunch of cars during that period.

This is from 2016, during the proceedings

http://www.esquire.com/entertainment/music/news/a42579/50-cent-broke/

So is Curtis James Jackson III, who at one point was worth more than $150 million, actually broke? Did he blow it all on an extravagant lifestyle and that $7 million lawsuit over a leaked sex tape and that $17 million lawsuit over janky headphones? In late February, a judge who was reasonably confused by the whole situation, ordered 50 Cent to explain why the hell he declared bankruptcy. Well, it turns out, no, he's not broke at all. In fact, 50 Cent is very, very far from broke.

According to court documents obtained by The Daily Mail, 50 has more than $64 million in assets and property and more than $10 million in checking and brokerage, and his businesses are collectively worth more than $44 million.

Pub? Sure.

As much? No.

With that said, those are also examples of the same stupid societal phenomena of people not understanding what "broke" means.

When Nic Cage went through his "financial problems". He owned 10's of millions of dollars in real estate, millions in art, millions in a car collection, etc. Mayweather for example, has a watch collection suggested to be worth more than 20 million dollars. Those are durable assets (in many cases, appreciating assets) that can be sold at a later date. That isn't broke. Being worth ~60 million dollars and not having the cash on hand to pay 23 million in debts isn't broke. People are idiots for buying into this entire line of nonsense.

I'm not going to dispute that the media loves the "rich black athlete is awful with his money" trope.

But like...prior to the McGregor fight, hadn't Floyd Mayweather banked something in the neighbourhood of $700 million thus far in his boxing career? And that's including the fact that he made at least $200M just a couple of years ago from his fight against Manny Pacquiao.

If you have those kind of career earnings, as well as that kind of massive payday in your late 30's, but by the time you're 40, you have between 5-10% of that grand total net worth left, and you don't have the liquid assets to pay off a $23 million debt...you may not be "broke", but you are "bad with money". Full stop.

The only argument I guess you could make is that it isn't actually reckless spending if he knows that, when the funds start running low, he can just set up another pay-per-view event that'll end up banking him upwards of nine figures. But even then, I'd say that still means that while he's amazing at making money, he's shit at managing it.

Bad with money is all relative. He has fun. He spends frivolously. Apparently he is a bad gambler. But he can afford it. He's certainly nothing close to broke. Nor at risk of it.

He just didn't want to sell his car collection, or one of his houses to pay the man. And he doesn't have to with $300 mill paydays.

Its nothing compared to Depp.

He will have a tough time blowing though $1 bill in his lifetime. $2000 hair cuts isn't going to do it.

I read somewhere that McGregor can't run because of a knee reconstruction he had done, which would explain why he wasn't able to build up the stamina he would need since it's a basic staple of any boxer's training regimen.

You have to give the guy props for hanging in the way he did at the end. Completely gassed. Couldn't throw a punch or protect himself but still refused to quit.
