Play-in Round: Toronto Maple Leafs (8) vs Columbus Blue Jackets (9)

I think people forget just how shit Marincin was in the Washington series a few years ago. Forever burned into my memory as not once but twice he got outplayed on the game winner by Johansson.

guy is a turd

I'd be surprised if the Jackets don't start getting some goals here. Muzzin is a pretty big loss with our current defensive depth. And I don't trust Freddy further than I could throw him.

The bad news is Columbus has to open it up to get m ore goals and they will score more, BUT it gives the Leafs a chance to score more themselves. BJs can't keep playing like this. They have to score.

1. He was 24, in his first playoffs, against an elite veteran physical contender.

2. He was partnered with Roman Polak and Connor Carrick.

3. He played in babcock's no-system.

4. The Leafs shut down the Caps pretty damn well overall.

Yeah, I'd consider ourselves very lucky if Freddie doesn't let in some more muffins before this series is done, or if guys like Marincin, Barrie or Ceci don't make dumb mistakes that end up costing us.

So, all the more important that we keep ragging the puck and that our big guns continue producing. Timing is big, too. So important to get that first goal and make this Columbus team play from behind.

Maybe I'm underestimating them. They do have guys who can score but they are nearly an ideal match up for us defensively given their lack of firepower. Their game is all cycle and point shots offensively. Keep the breakouts going and pressure the points.

They'll score again but the Leafs have held them tight quite nicely so far.

Muzzin would be a huge loss in 99% of series, but Columbus doesn't really do anything offensively. Their speed on the forecheck is their biggest strength and that is Muzzin's one kinda weakness.

They just need to keep moving the puck fast and efficiently like game 2. Columbus' only shot is limiting the Leafs time and space, but when the Leafs move the puck like they did last game in transition they can't.

They can't open things up and try to outscore the Leafs. That goes against everything that got them here.

Where's the gd gdt?

With a tiny bit of luck in game 1, CBJ would be down 2-0 and goalless so far in the series.

I dunno, losing Muzz does not change their offensive talent (or lack thereof). Or likely their gameplan (low risk)

So if I have this correct... When the leafs win this series, and if Montreal win theirs, and the Flyers stay in second place in their round robin ..... That means that we would be playing the Flyers?
That would be an easier route to move on I think?

Islanders
Habs
Carolina
Boston

Pretty much D first and offense comes from turnovers

I'd rank those as:

Islanders
Habs
Bruins
Hurricanes

as the order Id want to see them play the leafs.

The Leafs have outplayed the BJs overall and by a nice margin with a number of guys clearly playing below their standards:

1. Kapanen has looked positively drunk every shift. No idea what's going on there.
2. Marner has been a no show outside of late yesterday's game and some good pk work
3. Mikheyev looks like a guy who hasn't played in 9 months

These three need to wake up. They've been passengers so far.

Agree on the other two, but Marner has been improving with every shift. Except for that awful pass on the PP.
