Playoff GDT | Game #2 | at Sabres | Friday, 5/8/26 7:00 PM EST

You said this about Sennecke last year as well when we had the same discussion about who to draft if Demidov was gone. He was also my choice in that discussion.
I think you're missing my point about Benson, that no team would have drafted him at 5OA due to his size. The point about Sennecke is inapposite. There's always a chance that a player his size, with that skill, will go top 5, and he obviously did. There's still almost no chance that a kid like Benson or Hutson wiil, even if with hindsight they should, and they don't, which was my point. Bedard was considered generational, Benson wasn't,

Last night I realized that there is a conspiracy against Caufield by the NHL to throw him off his game and it’s working.

They won’t give Mr. Saturday Night and Saturday night games. Pretty Machiavellian if you ask me.
Game 6 next Saturday.

Oh yes, I know the league mentality. I just think they're wrong about it. A player is a player, regardless of his size. Hell Huston should have gone first overall, but the executives will never learn, about maybe just very very slowly.

Edit: My comment was originally about rankings, which is mistakenly thought was what you were referring too, both players were ranked in the mid first round on most scouting reports.

There is obviously data to support the notion that bigger bodies have a better chance of playing 200 NHL games than smaller ones, all things being equal, so it's not irrational for NHL teams to not draft a Benson type in the top 5. The data supports it and the draft is a crapshoot so teams will err on the side of probabilities. Even the great HuGo drafted Lane at 62OA, not with our picks at 1, 19 or 33.
