Round 2 | Montréal vs. Boston

Murray and Tinordi will have to see some action if we're to beat these heathens. I have serious concerns about our bottom D pairing against the Bruins when the traffic gets heavy in front of our net.

I also believe Lucic needs special attention, target practice if you will. He gets dumber when this happens...Emelin for one draws it out of him. Murray can too. You can't let a guy like him go unchallenged imo.

the Bruins are beatable and FWIW, we had a marginally better record in our Div than Boston did.

Well, one of Murray or Tinordi need to be in the lineup. But who do you take out? 55? The Bruins style of play is not the same as Tampa's. But, right now we have a very soft set of dmen. Sure Emelin/Subban can hit, but clearing the crease and taking care of business are 2 different things. Murray is a big boy, and plays the PK alright. I'd dress him.

Murray should not play against Lucic.

That means putting Murray out against a line that also has Kreijci and Iginla on it.

Playing Murray against another team's top line is a recipe for disaster.

He handled himself well in the regular season. He was quite decent on the PK. Prust/Moen are the only forwards we have to deal with Lucic, and 0 people on D. That's a bit scary. 55 serves no purpose.

Re: The Second Round Thread

No he didnt handle himself well in the regular season.

Playing against soft opposition he was one of the worst even strength defencemen in all of hockey.

Why are you such a hater? Put the big man in, it's the playoffs. Sht gets real now. The Bruins are a physical team, Prust/Moen might as well be playing on crutches.

Re: The Second Round Thread

When murray is on the ice. The habs spend 80% of his even strength minutes in their own end. And that is playing with an advantage of a ridiculous percentage of off zone starts and against third and fourth line competition.

Wanna stop lucic from creating havoc in front of price? Simple. Have the puck in the bruins end of the ice more than they have it in our end. Thats what pk can do against that line. Get them on their heels.

Look at it this way. If the habs spend 8 of the first 10 minutes at even strength with the bruins hemmed in our end... wed all be on here screaming for them to get the puck out and generate chances offensively. Wed be pissed at how they are playing.

But with Murray we except 8/10 minutes playing in our own end at even strength over the course of a game and think hes holding his own? Why? Cause hes big and hits? Its such bullshit.

Murrays play is the real crutch cause the other team has possession rivaling a powerplay when he is on the ice.

The problem with Murray is that you really have to shield his minutes, so you end up with a d-man who can't play more than 12-13 mins. a game, and that's a problem in the playoffs.

Murray won't play against Lucic. That's absurd. The Bruins first line has too much skill for pylons to handle. Now the third line on the other hand...

Keep Murray on the bench for PK (for example to defend against Chara who goes to the net) and for favourable match ups. Limit his 5-on-5 minutes. A lot of teams go with 4-5 defensemen in the playoffs. Double shift someone with Weaver and keep Murray playing under 10 minutes a game.

Bob McKenzie
@strombone1 just pumped the tires of the Boston Bruins. Said they are the most impressive team he's seen in the playoffs

I wasn't sure about the outcome before but knowing that Luongo likes the Bruins I am now convinced the Habs won't lose.

The Penguins tried to do this last year, and Murray still got eaten alive in the Penguins/Bruins playoff series.

In the 4-games vs Boston with Murray on the ice; PK hasn't allowed a goal in 13 opportunities, and no goals against 5-on-5.

He serves an effective purpose, but it'll take good pre-game planning & bench management by JJ - especially for games in Boston.

It appears that the series will likely start Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Northeastern U.'s graduation is set for Friday morning at the TD BankNorth Center.

Black Aces will face the Canadiens tonight at Bell center. It will be a private event.

Jebus, 10 days off?

That's crazy. Now they run the risk of pulling hammies and crap like that. Better practice hard.
