Well, over his 4 years there the Caps were 1st in Pts% and Goal Differential. So it probably wasn't a lucky cup.
 
Yup as I said over 4 years it was deserved. 4 kicks at the can for a team that good, for sure they deserved a cup. But that year in particular was the least deserving of them all.

And they got plenty lucky. Should have been out round 1. Had an easy path, etc

In retrospect the bad regular season was probably due to Holtby faltering for the first time. But he bounced back in the playoffs.
 
Point is Trotz doesn't have some special cup winning powers that few coaches have. His team's "underchieved" in the playoffs too and were a post away from another first round exit before winning a cup. Narrative would have been verrry different if that one went in.
 
For sure. Though his track record is pretty good in general. What he did with the Isles was even more impressive.
 
Without the cup he's seen as a dime a dozen recycled coach. And with that team he better have won at least once. But yeah he did great work with the isles and I think he's more suited for rosters like that. Because he will play three babooshkins over liljegrens and drive us all mad. Did that stuff on the caps constantly and they won in spite of that.

I agree tho, I'm not married to Keefe. I just think they can do better than Trotz.

They make for easy jokes and memes, but I don't think any of that shit makes a difference. Being too tight is as bad or worse than being too loose imo.

Plenty. Caps fans whined about it constantly. But my favorite is how long he played Brooks Orpik as a top pair d ahead of younger dudes like Schmidt. I recall he held onto alzner for too long too.
